World Sports Cars release rumours: dead, delayed or moving publisher?

A poster asked again for the World Sports Cars release date, provoking jokes about how often it is asked. Andre Warringa linked rumours that WSC was dead, while Ruud van Gaal said the West brothers had split from Empire over its push for a more arcade-like game and quoted Chris West saying the future had never looked better. Others reported that West Racing might have filed for bankruptcy and that a Sierra publishing deal was unconfirmed.

Rumor is that WSC will be released, in modified form, on 3041. Alanb "twinkie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:SiKc8.1719$[email hidden]... > anybody know a release date? > >

Well, I'm sure it isn't; WSC is just struggling to see the light of day as the Wests want it to. Empire wanted more arcadish software; their visions clashed so they split. The PS2 version has been split off quite some time ago; obviously the CPU intensive code that the original PC version uses can't be used on the PS2. The X-Box is somewhat more powerful, but as console racers are very arcady, I wouldn't imagine the Wests even WANTING to work on that version, even though the architecture of the X-Box is very much parallel to the PC. In other words; Razorworks would be working on the X-box version too. So after a period of lets-do-it-ourselves-then (with the idea of selling the game on the internet) it seems now it has found a publishing home at Sierra. Hey, finally some decent info! And Sierra seems a better choice than Empire.. looking at N2002 Sierra does NOT want to release arcade games only! Too bad about their decision about GPL2, but.. understandable. Thanks for the heads-up. Andre > >Ruud van Gaal >Free car sim: http://www.racer.nl/ >Pencil art : http://www.marketgraph.nl/gallery/

No one is speaking, nothing has been confirmed. The only thing that is known is that the Wests are not working with Empire and haven't been for at least 3 months. It also appears as if West Racing has filed for bankruptcy. Is the game going to be released? Doubtful.

To put things (and myself) at ease, here's something that's 1 minute old from Chris, and I quote: "Dont worry, a load of nonsense, the future has never looked better" He's just testing our patience I guess. ;-) Ruud van Gaal Free car sim: http://www.racer.nl/ Pencil art : http://www.marketgraph.nl/gallery/

If you have a killer flight sim and you are going to release it in the States, do you want to use the publishing name that so totally bolixed Red Baron 2d no wait 3d, no thats(3d) not possible 2d, no we just need a patch 3d, nono we can't possibly get it out in less than 2 years if we choose 3d, but we have already DONE the 3d work, but but.... ??? No I think, if I'm releasing a flight sim title, I keep far far away from Sierra. A racing title, that is another story...you have the built in fanbase from the Papyrus products. Most likely Verant/Havas assigns titles to whichever publisher they see fit. In this case, since they own both Empire and Sierra they could choose to use both for different parts of the world. dave henrie

At the moment Red Baron 3D is the only flight sim I have on my HD, and every time I fire it up I'm disapointed anew. They came Sooooo damned close and missed, and now Dynamix is gone and will never have the chance to get it right. I feel pretty much the same way about CPR. The problem with CPR wasn't that it sucked, but rather that it was *almost* great, but nonetheless missed. CPR was the first disc I actually threw away. I got tired of reinstalling it to find out if I could like it this time. Eventually if just got tired of being frustrated yet *again.* I guess I needed a CPR 12 step program. One of their tenets is that, " Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results each time." KFG
