I downloaded the N2002 demo, disabled all driving aids and tried to find a
way to increase AI difficulty but didn't find one. I always qualify first
and finish the two races often a lap ahead. And this from the first time I
tried it? What's wrong here? I know I'm not that good. Sure, it's easy to
spin out if you drive like an idiot, but if I play it safe, seems like I
have too much speed. Is the demo purposefully too easy to not discourage
newbies? I imagine the full game is much more challenging?
Anyhow, the game looks beautiful, I'm really jealous since I really want a
road racing game with the "bleeding edge" technology that N2002 has. I'm
not a fan of oval racing or "Nascars", just my opinion, to each his own.
But I can hardly wait for a sports car road racing game with the quality
present in N2002.
Alain, you set the AI strength in the race setup screen. You may have to
click on 'Show Options' in order to see it.

And thanks Rich#8 for the tip on GTMod, I'll check it out... gotta go out
and buy F1 2001 first.

Is this a troll post??
I couldn't keep the car going straight, I kept getting "Zinardied" every
time I hit the throttle. OK, so I have learnt to be a bit more careful with
the throttle, and only really plant it in 4th gear.. but then, coming off a
banked turn.... woa.. the back of the car gets loose, and even with the
little opposite lock I put on, next second I am doing 360's right down to
the next banked corner.
Ok, perhaps due to Nascar/Oval Track racing not really being that popular in
Australia, I don't have the knowledge on what is required setup and driving
wise when going around in circles on a banked track!!
But I have found the demo pretty hard.. OK!!

What kind of controller, Tony? And did you calibrate it?

Guillemot FF Race Leader, converted to USB, and yesish.. I went thru the
cal setup in N2002. It seems very little wheel movement causes the car to
get upset in a big way. I didn't fiddle with the linear setting, partly
because I didn't quite know which way did what!
The only assist I used was the clutch (I found with steering and throttle
assists that it was too easy, and FF was hopeless with steering assist of
course).
I have hacked the Thrustmaster drivers to work with this wheel, using the
Thrustmapper 3.08 etc, and removed the deadzones etc. The Guillemot wheel
has 270degrees of turn, so is pretty good to use.
Cheers

(so called "strength"). And I was using the default setup <easy> those
first times as well. I didn't mean to imply that it was arcadly easy, it
just seemed way too easy for a simulator. I wouldn't call myself an
experienced sim racer, but I have been playing them excessively for a long
time. I've played Viper Racing so damn much (without driving aids) that I'm
a little familiar with traction limitations.
It certainly took me a practice session to get used to N2002 the first time.
I put the car sideways many times during that first practice. I didn't mean
to come across as cocky at all. Now that I'm playing the Demo at 100%
strength and custom setup based on <fast>, the game is a real challenge for
sure, feels very real.
Cheers.

Well, oval racing isn't really about racing the track as much as road racing
is. The object in near-identical-car-oval racing is driver technique around
and in the middle of other cars (and their aero turbulence) whereas most
road racing is follow the leader. That said, I like road racing, I love the
roadies in NASCAR (and IRL and F1 when there is some racing going on, not
just a McClaren or Ferrari off the front...), but it is a different type of
racing. Oval racing is by no means easy as a lot of road racing fans may
imply. Get into an online oval race, you'll see what I mean when the
competitors aren't driving predictable lines at relatively constant speeds.
I would say driving an online oval race (in NR2002 for example) is like
giving the AI a couple of beers and setting them at 105% or 110% and THEN
racing them...hehe.

Yeah, I never said oval racing wasn't difficult. I said it's a matter of
preference, to each his own. I'm not going to argue which is better because
it's up to you to like what you like. Myself, I just find oval racing
monotonous and unusual for a car. I mean, when you get those cars set up
right, it no longer feels like a normal car with all that pull to the inside
of the track. I think most racers would love to race souped up cars on
street circuits where we can take our real-life driving experience and push
it to the max. Driving a Nascar in N2002 really doesn't call on my
real-life driving experience. A sports car sim would really satisfy my
cravings.
