While the cars may be images of sedans....I think if you dig into the Lienz track, you just might find some reality. dh
Well, they're all fantasy (compared to the real thing) and they are all real - real pixels - real digital sim racing tracks! Just give me GOOD tracks! "rex roland" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:v3eGf.16568$[email hidden]...

In the interim, expect 700 more track releases, and texture updates, and more tracks and textures, enough to keep the concept of the mismatch thriving. Alanb

Funny, but tracks and textures weren't a problem with F1C....and GPL....and N2003 and...... -- David G Fisher
What we appear to have here is a beguiling case of self-delusional pixelpomorphism. A 'circuit' that proclaims its origin and intended facsimile object unashamedly sans pretensions of grandeur may fairly be construed as more real than the converse.

Yes, but with a few exceptions, only the 'real' tracks enjoy enduring populairty among simracers.
Indeed, because they are the exemplars; the purists. A gaggle of pixelpomorphic, deluded in/outgroup dichotomous diehards with a penchant for masochistic self-buggering reality. Fawning followers of the God of Real, playing their Real games with plastic toys connected to a box running heuristic code approximating something else. 'I'm Really doing it, really!!!'

>"David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote Old cars only. Blah. I still don't see how rFactor is "more open, more close". What's there more to it? Everything in GTL can be edited the same, and probably at a higher degree of realism considering the game engine's evolution. Is it more open to the community, did they build tools for that? I see the same tools in both, very minimal and not suited at all for leagues or pickup racing both coexisting. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

Part of the attraction for me may be that when growing up it was cars like many of the ones modelled in GTL which were "proper" sports cars. Even if that's nothing to do with it, GTL is a whole heap of fun... far more fun than I ever expected, which is why I waited for the Ring release to get sucked in. Mind you, I believe there's a Ring for rFactor which I missed. Perhaps that might draw me back into rF a little, but I never found a car in rF which I enjoy driving as much as many of the GTL cars. The mini is *far* more interesting to drive than the basic vehicles in rF or LFS. Andrew McP

Yes there is a Ring for rF. Same GTR import as what I suspect the GTL version is. Taken from 'The Mother' which itself came from a port or two via GPL. Someday, Somebody is gonna finish a new accurate version of the Ring and then we will be happy puppies indeed. dh
Well, one has Starforce and the other doesn't. It not a difficult choice for me. From what I've read of Starforce, I'm not risking an install on my PC. It's too bad, because GTR and GTL look interesting. I guess the company making those games is not just keeping pirates away unfortunately... Besides, I've never race a car on a "real" course, and my only "in person" experience is at Loudon, Montreal and Trois-Rivires. All other "real" tracks may as well as be fantasy. As long as the track is fun to race on and feel reasonably plausible (not Red Rock (Nascar Racing 2) or that Papyrus figure 8 track), I don't really care if it's real or comes out of someone imagination.
