MMm SCGT ,,,,does anyone else find the frame rate poor? looks an
interesting Sim esp with the add-ons.Might be the Graphics card ( Ge Force
1 ) but an XP 1900 should get it someway out of the Treacle.
Is there something i am missing ? ( ok no cheap shots :-) )
Ian....great analagy....treacle...lol
I had a PII-450 with a Geforce 1 DDR and 192mb ram when i bought SCGT.
I added only the patch and a few cars and tracks, nothing like some of the
crowd.
My fps were very poor and despite many attempts at improving it nothing made
it 'noticeably' higher.
Then when i bought my new system last July,Athlon TBird 1.33,Geforce 2 Pro
64mb,512mb DDR ram etc etc etc i thought i would check out SCGT again.
My expectations were of alot higher fps and smoother throughout.
I was very very disappointed.
It runs nice but with fraps the fps is only 34 at 800x600 with all on Max.
It really is a crazy bit of coding, perhaps needing a SiPhi diet like he did
with F1 2000/CS.

A GeForce 1 on an XP1900? That's like taking a Corvette ZO6 and giving it
the $30 Pep-Boys Special 155/60-14 tires.

I used to run SCGT quite happily on an AMD K6-2 400 with a GeForce 256 with
acceptable frame rates (and still do, although now on a AMD 1.2GHz with
GeForce 2 Pro) - and this was with all the add-ons applied, including the
high res stuff. I'm sorry, I can't think of a quick solution, but I would
say it is likely that it is a configuration or patch problem - the hardware
should easily support it. Keep looking...

I went from a 450MHZ P3 with an ATI RAGE FURY with poor frame rates in the
low 20's to low 30's, and then I bought a VooDoo 5 and a 1.4 GHZ Athlon
expecting to greatly improve my framerates but to my surprise the framerates
only improved into the 30's and low 40's. But then I noticed that if I
turned off the rearview mirror that framerates suddenly zoomed into the 70's
to low 100's. The mirror makes a huge difference, if you can make due
without it.

Just ordered a Radeon 8500 i'll let you know if it improves.
What really bugs me is that i can run GPL flat out and it is as smooth as
silk when other Car Sims seem to have terribly sloppy coding ( Grand Prix 3
anyone )
what was that all about ?.
Wouldnt it be great if someone did a proper Le Mans sim , Gulf Porsches
Ferrari 512 etc
anyway roll on March the 3rd
Have Fun
Ian
There is a patch, probably available at the pits or speedsims that shrinks
the mirror to half or less...I use that and it does help improve the fps.
ISI(scgt's coders) have always had problems with framerates and mirrors.
Their F1 titles are murder on lowend systems if you have the mirrors on. I
try to spot use em. Kinda like a Submarine...take a peek shut em
off....take another peek, shut em off again.
