Anyone using a 15" or 17" LCD flat panel display for racing games? Does it keep up with the action well? I need a new monitor and could really use the extra desk space a flat panel gives.

The problem with LCD and gaming is that they do not refresh quick enough and cause motion blur. For racing games it might be ok, but probably not great for games like Quake, Medal of Honour, etc where there is a lot of rapidly changing graphics. Some of the newer ones are "near" the quality we would need, just cant rmember who makes them check Tom's hardware he did a good LCD piece a bit ago, I think he also had a link to a company making brighter LCD's for gaming. Cnn also had a piece on a tech that was doubling the "refresh" rate past TV and was meant to be licenced late last year at a "reasonable" rate
The old ones have a refresh rate of 30ms Now it's average 25ms I didn't test on GPL, but for Counter Strike it's not fast enough, too much blur.

No - they're cack for high-motion anything. >I need a new monitor and could really > use the extra desk space a flat panel gives. Pull your desk away from the wall 12 inches and hang a 19" CRT over the back and save yourself 200 on the price of a 17" tft Doug
They still aren't good enough. I have a 15.1 in. LCD on my notebook, it is the newest one, but I have to use my 21 inch monitor for any extended period of time games. You also need to get really good frame rates (60+) if you want to use the LCD screen at all, so for the racing games I have to use the monitor. -Stuart Becktell "ssrat" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Sat, 23 Feb 2002 22:05:28 -0400, "Schooner" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >The problem with LCD and gaming is that they do not refresh quick enoughand
