Those who were looking forward to this "sim" might be bit
disappointed...
Here's a snip taken from www.gamespot.com
"The game is aimed at the general gamer rather than the hard-core racing
sim enthusiast, and while the complete version will have a number of car
set-up options, the developer admits that's not the main focus of the
game."
38 tracks of pure arcade fun?

I've you've read any details about the game, it has a strong
storyline/career mode aspect that I think they want to be the central point
of the game. But I think they're also trying to make it fairly simlike.
It's going to have a very realistic damage model from what I've seen, and I
havent read anything that says the cars aren't going to be customizeable at
all.

Take a look at this screen shot.

The way the car is loading on the left side doesn't look arcade to me.
Keep in mind this is the next generation of a surprisingly good PS One game
Jarrett and Labonte racing. J&L had good physics, very good AI (better than
you'd believe for a PS One game since it was better than any PC racer other
than GPL), and impressive damage modeling. I have faith that they won't
take a step BACK from J&L.
It may not be hardcore from a set-up perspective but I think it will be far
more sim than arcade.

Granted, but that's not the impression I got from reading the preview.
Mind you, just the damage modeling might be well worth the price of
admission. I also liked the fact that the AI adapts its game based on
your performance (à la GPL before AI patches). Just wanted to spur a
discussion, guess it worked! ;)

"Codemasters estimates that the full game will take between 20 and 30 hours
to complete."
In some games, I've spent more time practicing at one track than this!
Looks like hardcore simmers might be able to whip through it with ease,
depending on how well the adaptive AI is coded. Also, where is the
replayability in this? If I can complete the whole game in 20 hours (with
38 tracks...), is there enough left in the game to warrant me wanting to
play it over again?
I think this may be a "wait and see" despite the cool damage modelling.
My 2 cents,
Mike

I didn't even consider the possibility of no cockpits. That would be a deal
breaker. I do know J&L had cockpits, and all the other Toca games, so I'm
betting on them being included. It'd be nice to see a screen shot at this
point to be sure.

I too am concerned given that preview. I'm hoping they deliver the same or
better physics, AI, and damage from J&L with update graphics and the huge
selection of tracks. If that's all I get, I'm excited about the game
overall even though it's missing some hardcore features.
You succeeded in spurring a discussion with your "38 tracks of pure arcade
fun". Here's hoping it's 1000 calories of fun with only 1 calorie of
arcade. ;0)
