This weekend, my bro and I will be attending our first ever Nascar race. We live in Seattle which is probably the worst place to live in the lower 48 and be a Nascar fan since there are no races in our neck of the woods. We'll be packing our bags and flying down to Vegas on Friday. We'll watch the Busch race on Saturday and we have a speedzone pass that includes a pit tour and a meeting with Jeff Gordon and Randy Lajoy.(Sp?) I've got a couple questions: Do they let you bring camcorders into the stands? Also, do any of you veteran Nascar fans have any suggestions of things to do/see while at the race? Thanks for your input. -Tim
Tim; Haven't been to a race since Sept. 11th, but in years past, you could bring just about anything you want, including camcorders. Never been to Vegas, but here's some general tips for every race. -bring lots of water, beer, etc. Especially water. Easy to get dehydrated. Mandatory to have something in your hands at all times during practice, etc. :) -bring lots of suntan lotion. -bring a seat cushion, at least if you're chronologically challenged like me :) -sunglasses required. -rain gear. Yep, even for Vegas. -binoculars -John And most important, a creme pie for Jeffy's face :) Sorry, couldn't resist. Tim, Last year was my first Nascar race and I went to Vegas. Me and the misses are leaving tomorrow :) once you start its a hard habit to break. Last year even though it wasn't a hot summer day I sunburned the crap out of my face so you being from Seattle, I would highly recommend gobs of suntan lotion lol. As far as restrictions go there is a FAQ about that at www.lvms.com Good luck to ya, Dave "Tim Miser" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > This weekend, my bro and I will be attending our first ever Nascar race.We

No, most of them are not :) Some of them are a mock up but MOST are a real car thats been retired, When I did show cars my main car I pulled was a real car a few years old, it even had the race engine in it still.. the only things that are stripped down are things like the radio eqiupment etc....I wished some of the cars I pulled were stripped down would made it easier to get my FAT ASS in the damn thing!!! lol, ok, thanks. One's I've seen have always been hollow inside. But those have been trackside, not at outside events, don't know if that may make a difference. -John "Blake" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:G8cf8.207662$[email hidden]... > No, most of them are not :) Some of them are a mock up but MOST are a realcar thats been retired, When I did show cars my main car > I pulled was a real car a few years old, it even had the race engine in itstill.. the only things that are stripped down are things > like the radio eqiupment etc....I wished some of the cars I pulled werestripped down would made it easier to get my FAT ASS in the > damn thing!!! > > > "John Pancoast" <[email hidden]> wrote in messagenews:[email hidden]...

Depends on the track owners I think now. I went to both the Fall race and last week's race at the Rock and ISC (the owners, the France's really) has imposed a certain size max for bags (like 6x6x12 maybe). My camera bag was a tad big but they let me in with it. It was chock full of 35mm camera equipment and a big lens I had slung over my shoulder too (400mm prime, on a strap, its cover would have been a 2nd bag I was told). They said nada to me (other than searching the bag for glass containers, a no-no, and bombs) so I would assume a camcorder would be fine too. Split up your stuff if you go, this was our way: My camera was my bag, my wife had the refreshments bag, my buddy had all the lotions, programs, towels etc in his bag, and we had our 'Racin Radios' pre-slung on our heads with the scanner on my belt. We got everything in and each only had our prerequisited 1 small bag. (and yes I know that is not a word :) They seemed serious about it too, saw A LOT of coolers walking back out to the lots on the way in...check with the track before leaving home, for their specific rules. Enjoy the race, its a No Bull run and should be good.

As a Seattleite I can certainly agree it's a tough place to be a Nascar fan. There is a fairly large simracing group out here though. Tim, forgot one of the most important items; good ear protection. Also, a scanner's great fun if you have access to one. None of the pc speak you hear on tv interviews going on there :) -John "Tim Miser" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:_LVf8.27388$mG.97434@rwcrnsc54...

Heck, the noise was the best part! LVMS does need to work on their transportation issues though. Rode the CAT (public buses) to the race, they were special Nascar Express buses. Saturday morning, our "Nascar" bus driver had to divert to the downtown bus depot because he needed directions. Didn't know where the track was!!! Ended up taking an hour and a half instead of 40 minutes and caused us to miss half of our Jeff Gordon meeting. Arrgh! Stood in line along with about 50,000 other people for over 4 hours after the cup race just to get on a bus! Good race though, on Saturday, we were in the pit area during the happy hour as the drivers came out of the garage area about 3 feet from where we were standing. Got some good video of some drivers waving at us through their SIDE WINDOW (blake-I'll email you an .avi if you don't believe me) as they went past us. -Tim "John Pancoast" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
