At the grand prix today, there was a tent with one of Sir Jack
Brabham's old (1966) cars in it, and a note saying that he
will be doing an autograph signing session at 11:50am.
Now, I'm not one for standing in line for years to get an autograph,
and the tent wasnt where I wanted to be later on that morning
anyway, so I used the grey matter. ;) I reasoned that Jack would
be in the Paddock area... and shortly before 11:50am, he would
have to leave it. So, I placed myself accordingly just outside
the paddock club entrance/exit at the appropriate time and waited.
Sure enough, at about 11:40, he walked out (alone) and it seemed
that among all the autograph hunters, I was the only person to
recognise who he was! Approaching with politeness, he was all
too happy to give me a few seconds of his time and sign an
autograph for me.
As it turns out, a few minutes later I was passing the Channel 9
TV studio (on site at the grand prix), and noticed Alan Jones (1980
champ) walking out. One more autograph for the collection, and
he added that if I wait a few more minutes, Sir Jackie Stewart
would be coming out as well.
Sure enough, a few minutes later he walks out, deep in discussion
on his mobile phone, but he knew what an autograph hunter looks
like! ;) It was at this moment that my felt tip pen decides
to not work in his hands! argh! Maybe next year...
And the subject line of this message?
I asked Sir Jack Brabham if he'd ever played GPLegends (wonder how
often he gets asked that?). He said that he'd heard it was good,
but, and I quote, "I've never seen it".
Maybe he has a life. ;)
cheers...
Good work GD!!.........like you I used my "Grey Matter" I also to get a pic
of Sir Jack & my 6yr old daughter at Phillip Island last Sunday........also
got him to sign my cap.........& I assure you he definitely knows what GPL
is now.......I got him to sign a New boxed copy I had been keeping for this
very occasion :))
Cheers, David.

Or Stewart even.
His opinions are well known. He's tried it and has commented that he doesnt
remember it being that hard to drive the real thing

There are more stories about what Stewart said (someone from LC talked
to him and Stewart claimed never to have heard of it).

And of course there is the fact that Stewart was approached at some
point or other to try to obtain license rights to use in the game, so
he's obviously heard about it, even if he dosn't remember hearing
about it.

And if he would actually would have played it and commented on it he
would have remembered it right?

One would certainly think. Still, he's both a 'real life alien' and a Scot,
( which amounts to being an alien), and who knows what his mind retains if
it dosn't directly relate to driving or shillings and pounds.
There is *still* the issue that when JYS sits down at a GPL screen for the
first time he's just another newbie. His instantaneous opinion is pretty
much worthless.

Great report, thanks for sharing. I wrote a letter to Sir Jack a year
ago, asking for autographs for my son and me (Tristan was driving gpl
at the time, check gplrank), and mentioned that his virtual self had
kicked my butt in AI GPL races many a time, so that's probably where
he heard of "Grand Prix Legends" first. ;-)
I also wrote him that the Brabham was my favourite car, both for its
reliability and sturdiness. I think that's what prompted him to write
back half a year later ;-)
cheers,
