Hi all, has anyone else had a problem with 2002 spinning the cd excessively, both before the program loads as well as after I've begun a race......sometimes, I'll be into the Qualifying before the thing finally winds down. Cd drive makes some strange noises while it is first spinning up to load the program as well, but hey, I'm just glad it loads. Drive is a Sony CD-RW CRX160-E, in a Win XP Pro box, Plll @ 1G, 256 m pc133 Ram, 64m Geforce2 GTS/Pro, v21.83, 23.11, 27.42 drivers, depending on the phase of the moon........Game runs fairly well, 60+ fps looking OK, in OpenGL. Just curious about all the cd noise. Thanks, Ed

What you're likely hearing is the drive gagging on the disc's error protection. If you go into Event Viewer you'll probably see CD-ROM bad block errors occuring at that time. Some drives are worse than others... my DVD drive freaks out but my CD-RW is a lot better. Dale.

I've used both my dvd rom drive and my cdrw drive, either will spin up for maybe 30 secs when launching N4/NR2002(whichever drive the disk is in), and never spins up again until next exit and relaunch. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash Ed White <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3LTg8.59861$[email hidden]... > Hi all, has anyone else had a problem with 2002 spinning the cd excessively, > both before the program loads as well as after I've begun a > race......sometimes, I'll be into the Qualifying before the thing finally > winds down. Isn't that what no_CD hacks were made for? "Dale Green" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Are you sure that's because of the no-cd hack? I read a couple of vague 'could not save' posts, it rather seems to be a bug in n2002.. Andre

With my DVD drive I could only start the game ONCE. If I exited the game and tried to re-launch it my DVD drive just made all sorts of terrible noises and the game would never launch. I could not even eject the CD. I would have to do a hard re-boot to get back into the game. I put the CD in my cdrw drive and it seems to work fine in there. Very annoying however. By the way, N4 worked fine although if I launched the game from the autostart menu that comes up when you insert the CD it would lock up my system. Brian Oster
You could always go out and buy a cheap normal CD-ROM to install, this way you could use the cheap drive all the time instead of the CD-RW. This may also allow you to do CD-CD copies on the fly. SLG "Ed White" <[email hidden]> wrote:

(All spelling errors are intentional and are there to show new and improved ways of spelling old words. Grammatical errors are due to too many English classes/teachers)

Yea, as the others said, it is the copy protection screwing with your cdrom drive. These game pulishers are real assholes for putting *paying* customers through this bullshit.I bought a new DVD drive yesterday and made sure it has no problems with copy protected disks first so I bought a Liteon LTD163 which is known to have no problems with copy protection. Played N2002 using it last night and no problem like you describe. EA and Sierra are the two biggest offenders when it comes to copy protection schemes. They make you enter a code and then still put offensive copy protection schemes on the cdrom that won't work on many cdrom/DVD/cdrw drives. And they know it too.
Mmmm, that's a serious consideration. Online isn't the main thing, it's everything. "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

*cough* www.daemon-tools.com *cough* 1) just do an image dump with 'ddump' (freeware, search google) 2) load the image in daemon-tools (more freeware). no checkmarks, no nothing. 3) keep cd in the jewel case where it belongs. This works like a charm with all multiplayer games that require the cd to be in the drive (i.e. all of today's games). I do this for NR2002, Diablo2, etc. "Steve Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:_rah8.45285$[email hidden]...

Normally I would recommend this too, but NR2002 crashes when run from an ISO with DaemonTools. First time any CD has ever given me trouble with DaemonTools :( -Larry "doubleu" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:l9bh8.29718$[email hidden]...

I run N2002 from an image file I made with cloneCD mounted in Dameon. Runs great. I checked the 2 read subchannel boxes in CloneCD. I have 3 grandsons and having cd's lying around is not an option.
