How much better is N2002 than N4 I didn't think the screen shots looked all that much better N4 runs great on my abit kr7a raid amd 1700 ati aiw 32 meg radeon SB live 512 2100 ddr memory how well will n2002 run on this system?
>"Johnny Mac" <[email hidden]> wrote > how well will n2002 run on this system? You won't have any problem running NR2002, be sure of that <G> It runs on my poor P3-500, I mean why wouldn't it run well on your good PC? :) -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- http://www.ymenard.8m.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...
The improvements are not just in the looks. It's the physics, sound, everything really. If the patch fixes the textures on a KyroII and the engine sound cutting out on the SBLive, I'll be a happy camper. My system gets the same FPS (28-70fps in 1024 32-bit) as it did in N4 and I'm running a AMD 1.3Ghz with a KyroII. Johnny Mac wrote:

100% better IMO. What N4 should have been to begin with. Got rid of N4 already on eBay myself. -John "Johnny Mac" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:mL8h8.680$[email hidden]...

Is it worth the purchase if you all ready have N4? Well it probably depends. For me it was well worth it since N4 was about the only game I have played for the last year. What I really wanted from N4 was a better damage model, and better AI. N2002 has a much improved damage model (AI cars that wreck actually have to drop out of the race now), and the AI *appears to possibly be improved*. I am a little hesitant to give the AI a full thumbs up yet because I have still seen some problems and I haven't yet tried to race at Bristol or Martinsville and have really only raced at Daytona, NC and a little bit of Atlanta in N2002. From what I have seen so far it is a mixed bag. I still saw problems with the AI entering the pits. I did actually have some yellows caused by the AI (without me involved) at Daytona and NC which was great. I got sick of every stop in N4 being a green flag stop. There are a few other issues that I hoped would be fixed or improved in N2002 but still remain. Performance for me was about the same. I got slightly better FPS in N4 (both using the same graphics settings). I run OpenGL at 1280x960x16 and to me the graphics look about the same. Direct3D does look much better but I get better FPS using OpenGL. Sound is much improved all though the sound mod that was put out by someone who extracted the sounds from the N2002 demo were, IMO, just as good if not better. I have a SB live and I did have some sound issues but I think I have them fixed for the most part. Other improvements I like... The player manager now seems to work (I had problems with it in n4). I like the ability to restart any one of the four parts of a race without having to abandon and restart the race (there is a bug however with a saved event in the season mode). Hey Johnny. Both Circuit City and CompUSA have NR2002 on sale for $30 after a $15 instant and $5 mail in rebate. It's well worth it. I was one of the many that paid full price for it when it first came out and can express no regrets in spending the extra bucks, so...if you can grab one for $20 less...:-) -- See ya in the pits, Dean I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how long it's been since I've forgotten anything. Jason, is your SBLive new, or have you run it successfully with other games. I just bought a new PC with an SBLive in it, and had a "ratcheting" sound effect in GPL, haven't tried it with NR02 yet. Old machine had SBLive also, and didn't have any problem.

hey Brian where can I get that sound mod?
The only problem with the KyroII and NR2002 that I can see is while at Las Vegas, you may get a few grass textures that are just garbage data. Now Since you don't drive on the grass, this really isn't a problem ;) Further ahead on the track, the white lines maybe not textured properly (black-ish lines) but it's really quite far ahead that it isn't a problem either. These issues are documented in the readme and hopefully will get fixed in the patch. rb wrote:

I had my SBLive for a loooong time, at least a year. My motherboard is a ASUS A7A266 with the ALi chipset. I've heard the VIA chipset can cause problems with the SBLive -- check there first. Otherwise, I've had no problems with the soundcard and running 24 sounds on NR2002 or 16 sounds on GPL. Don Jennings wrote:

I think this may very well be the case. I have a via chipset and after updating to the *latest* 4-1 drivers I started having problems with the video locking up and popping with my sb live. I eventually did a fresh install of win98 and used the drivers that originally shipped with the mb and everything is fine. I also dual boot to xp pro and I am using the latest 4-1 drivers and the video is fine, but I have had some audio problems. I swear it is like a friggin jig-saw puzzle trying to match up os/video drivers/sound drivers/chipset drivers and get everything to work.
