Hey guys and gals its worth it to register with EA sports and or Pogo.com. I play cards at Pogo mostly spades, never spent a penny there and they sent me an email today saying happy birthday and here is a code number for $15 dollars off any game in the EA inventory. I have never spent a penny on their websites like I said I play cards online but thats it. And its legit I ordered F1 2001 and got if for five bucks plus five bucks freight. On that subject my Momo should be here tomorrow and I am super psyched to try a wheel never even touched on before. My playing thus far has been Nascar4, Need for speed, some off-road things 4x4 EVO 2 and the likes. I would like to give the ????? Indy or Formula cars?? or whatever they are called a try, I just ordered like I said F1 2001 and am interested if thats a decent title and what else I might like. Is the GPL I hear tossed around here Grand Prix Legends?? If so how is that game or whats your favorite. I guess I would have to call myself at least for right now more of a have fun kind of racer probably leaning toward Arcade style. That obviously could change, it did on my Flight sims anyway. Doubtful I would ever race online. Sorry for the length of the post and thanks in advance for any responses. By the way I havent been around long thats probably obvious but does anyone have an opinion why a game like Gran Tourismo which sounds like one of the best sims around isnt made for PC? Possible that might come down the road sometime? Brad

Hey guys and gals, Brad is my crazy step-brother who was released on March 1st. He's full of methadone and vinegar, coming soon to a race server near you! Beware of T1... ;)_____________________________ Sorry.... That outburst was totally uncalled for... F1 2001 is a very good sim but can be a pain in the ass to setup. For some people it works ok right away (don't forget to install the patch to activate the force feedback) but I and others have problems with the controller settings which so far haven't been solved. Ditch N4 and buy N2002, it has improved a lot. Especially if you are new to racing (and there's a big difference between Need for Speed type racing and a realistic racing simulator) there are some great lessons in N2002 which will help you a lot. If you like arcade racing get Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (or Porsche 2000 as it's called in Europe), it's damn fun while still leaning towards some realism. GPL is da bomb, but can be very frustrating in the beginning. You're driving in F1 cars from 1967, and those babies are MEAN. But once you can control them, nothing beats Grand Prix Legends. If you install GPL out of the box, it will look like an old crappy game, but install the -hundreds- of addons and it will look like it has been released yesterday. Al games mentioned above have great force feedback, allthough I can't get it working properly in F1 2001. >By the way I havent been around long thats probably obvious but does >anyone have an opinion why a game like Gran Tourismo which sounds like >one of the best sims around isnt made for PC? I feel you will post a lot of questions here in the near future :) Andre >Brad > >

I will have you know I take great offense at this. Did I fire the first shot? Why I oughta.........what did you say anyway?? Brad
You'll love F12001 with that Momo, be sure and get the beta patch for F12001 that allows it to have FF. There are also a lot of adjustments you can do to the FF settings, others here can certainly help you with that. Also, if you read the readme from the patch, you'll see with the Momo you will need to set it up with a negative setting in F12001, I have mine set to -100%. FF in N4 and N2002 is pretty cool, but imho it is really good in F12001 and from what I hear GPL ( I have GPL, just haven't installed it on my new machine yet and tried the Momo with it yet). Many simracers boycott anything related to Pogo.com, because before that, the company was named TEN, you know the creators of the NROS. History lesson Brad. In the beginning we had World Circuit(referred to as GP1) and it featured head to head multiplayer over a modem. You and a friend could race against the AI for a championship seaon. Absolutely stunning brilliant work unless you had a problem with framerates of about 1 screen update every 2 or 3 seconds. Kinda like driving in 10 foot jumps. Next came Indycar Racing (known as ICR or ICR1) and that had a big sticker on the box which trumpeted head to head multiplayer action. Trouble was it didn't work. The sim shipped without ANY multiplayer functionality. But the then small team at Papyrus kept at it and the result was a patch that was amazing. Gone were the herky jerky barely moving races in GP1. It was as fluid as offline racing. Trouble was...you could only run single races, the sim didn't keep track of a championship season. Then came Nascar Racing & ICR2. Nascar 1 had some hidden net code to test out large fields. By the time Nascar Racing 2 came out, they had a sophisticated phone line connection which was called Hawaii. This had a benefit of NOT having the normal congestion and slowdowns of the internet. However, every moment you were racing was billed by the phone company for long distance charges. (I'm fuzzy about the times Hawaii was ended and replaced but it was around the release of N2 I believe) Hawaii was a great experiement, then came the time to put the multiplayer out there for everyone on the internet. Papyrus even signed league deals with Nascar, the Nascar Racing Online Series(I think that was the official name) or NROS was formed and even had official backing from Nascar. Nros was touted as a real league even sanctioned by Nascar the same as the Winston West series or Arca or Busch. Nros was made available via an online group called TEN. Nros had structure, it had rankings, it had community, and, because you had to pay a monthly fee to race, had a very committed bunch of racers. No wreckers or kiddie behaivor. TEN could never draw the sheer # of users to pay $10 to $30 for the use of it's service. I think they lasted in that form for about a year, maybe a-bit longer. Then NROS was disbanded, the servers shut down, and TEN changed it's name to POGO, gave up catering to the online gamers who played Quake or Duke Nukem or Decent or Nascar and changed their focus to casino or parlor games that are the mainstay today. I think I remember POGO getting purchased by a larger publisher...maybe Electronic Arts but I'm not sure about that. So when you see posts here about jerks wrecking races, a-holes ruining guys rankings, the old farts like Franc pine for the days of yore on Hawaii or Nros when online racing was safe. There still were some blistering tirades tho from racing incidents... :0 Anyquestions? Can others fill in the blanks? anyone still awake after such a long post? dave henrie

At it best TEN was really something, at it's worst it was furiating (sp) as hell, but one ended to forget that as on the whole it worked pretty good Connected with ISDN from Europe and had very little problems with warp and disconnects, the beauty of it was that you only had to find an ISP with a good connection to ONE spot, if you managed to nail that one spot down, you were set, personally I had 4 ISP's during my TEN days, all of them "free", if one connection warped, I could try another The ranking wasn't "perfect", but it was *something* at least, and it gave you a pointer about the abilities of the guys you were racing with, although it did favor sprint racing, but they were looking at modifying that as well, personally I think I'd still be racing Nascar today if TEN was still running, well worth the 39.95/3 month if you ask me, others will tell you otherwise of course It was very cool when the "Official" NROS was running, times sucked for us Euro's of course, but then again we weren't eligible for that bit, I did participate in some of the events as I was living in Alaska at the time :-), but racing at 3/4/5 am and having to work the next day soon put a stop to that, still, I look back at my racing days on TEN with great fondness and are very grateful to people behind it for making it happen One of the biggest drawbacks as I saw it was the fact that there was no options for custom tracks, if the tracks didn't come with the game, no go, but on the other hand, the fact that the servers was owned and managed by TEN made it all the more difficult to cheat, and wrecking and bad language could also be monitored better, and the fact that you had to pay for your online time meant that most people on there were sort of serious, even more so for the few Euro's that was there as it was a bit of a hassle to get an account from outside the US/CAN, but yes, it did have it's fair share of bad driving and intentional wrecks Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ "Animation isn't the illusion of life; it is life" --Chuck Jones (1912-2002)--
