I just installed a Visiontek GEforce MX440 in my HP athlon 900 with 256 mb
ram. I was expecting to get better framerates in N2002 but I seem to be
getting the same rates as I was getting with a Nvidia tnt2.
Are there any special settings I need to be changing to get better
framerates.
Thanks Barrie
A GF 2 MX is not a significant upgrade from a TNT 2.
I think you would have been wiser popping in here asking advice before
choosing the MX.
I doubt anyone would have pointed you in that direction.
Money tight then get a GF 3 Ti 200 64mb
Money no object wait a week or two and get a GF4.
Morgan
Sorry its a GF 4 MX440

Think of them as GF 2's that
have been hotrodded up some. Many of the features that are available in the
higher priced GF4's are not there in the GF4mx series. Sure it's fast..but
remember, for nvidia based cards, MX stands for lower price and lower
performance. I think, although I haven't seen any benchmarks yet...the GF3
ti's are both faster than any of the GF4MX cards.

I doubled my frame rates (yes truly doubled)
when i went to a visiontek MX400. I get between 40-70fps in N4 when i
was getting around 20 with a TNT chipset. My FPS tripled in
CS/TFC?DOD to around 72 after I switched. Go to:
http://www.sportplanet.com
and look for the Nascar link. From there go into the teamlightspeed
forums and you will find a very long and detailed post about setitings
to get the best performance from your video card. In addition, they
have a nice benchmark facility so you can see how your p.c. compares
to others.
good luck,
jeff

another card. It's always better to ask first and then spend your cash.
Many stores have fairly good return policies, perhaps you can take the card
back and get a GF3 ti 200...

If they were GF2 and GF4 yes, but they are MX series cards and are nothing like the full GF2 and/or
GF4 cards. GF4 MX cards are just a little better than GF2 MX cards, GF2 GTS or Ultra etc cards are
better than those, GF3 Ti cards are waaay better. And of course the new nVIdia king of cards are
the GF4 Ti cards...
