I started a Championship Season at 25% race length, but noticed that at that
length pit stops aren't necessary. At least for Daytona that is. Haven't
gotten further than that.
But before I continue, I'm considering starting a new season with 33% race
length. Will that length make pit stops necessary in every race? What race
length would make 2 stops necessary in some races?
I wish I had time to run full races, but I just don't.

Well 33% would get you 1 stop on average. You'd probably need a little over
50% to get 2 stops.
MadDAWG
I run 50% and I find that on a lot of tracks it is good for 2 stops.
Under N4 every stop was a green flag stop (unless you wrecked), but I
am actually seeing some cautions under N2002 so you might find that
you get to make several stops with a 50% race.
BTW, you may want to note that if you start a championship race from a
saved race it will not save the results. I had to race daytona 4
times before I figured that one out. If you decide to exit a race
before it's conclusion, just be sure that the next time you run the
race that you start from the very begginning.

At Dega and Daytona with the plates on, pit window is typically 53-58 laps.
If you hate the plates, the fuel mileage will drop significantly, so that you
have to
pit after 38-42 laps instead...

Has anyone heard why Sierra left out a save race feature in both N4 and
N2002? In previous versions I would run full seasons at 100% length. Without
the save race feature this really isn't practical now. Hopefully (please) a
patch will be released to rectify this.

The save race feature has been a topic of much debate and it's not
going to happen. If you email Papy you will get an answer back
stating "realism" or some BS like that (thats the only part that
really ticks me off, just tell me the truth). I believe that the
actual reason would be with the highly complicated physics engine it
was determined that a save race feature would not be easy to implement
and would probably require VERY long save/load times and very large
save game files. Whether this is actually the case or not, I don't
know. I personally don't quite get it, after all Falcon 4.0 can be
saved and I would think that it's physics engine would be every bit as
complex as N4/N2002 (could be way off base here, just speculation).
I find that 50% races are a good comprimise, besides I find it hard to
even come back to a paused game 15 or 20 minutes later and pick up
where I left off. If I get 50 laps into a run at NC it is very hard
to come back later and try and pick up where I left off. I do wish,
however, that they had implemented it, but I can get along without it.

Well then it may have been Sierra tech support then, but that is the
answer I got when I first got N4 and couldn't figure out how to save
the game and emailed tech support. I can probably dig up the email
tonight if you would like a copy.

Why do people want to run 100% races if they aren't going to sit and
race for the full time? I've never understood this. I think being
thrust into the middle of a race would be disconcerting anyway, since
oval racing is all about consistency, but regardless, why is the save
race feature such a big deal? Just run with race lengths that suit
your schedule.

While I've never done this, I think I can understand the appeal. Full
length runs, multiple green flag pits, getting laps back under caution, the
whole deal. Maybe more strategy than you would get in a 40% race, even if
you ran the full race over two sessions.

Yep...what Don said. I did it with N3 and it really added more to a race.
There's a lot more opportunity to use race strategy in a 100% race. Try it
Jason...you'll see what I'm talking about.

> Tim Once again we need to remind everyone that N4/N2002 are closer to GPL and
NOT N3. So it's not that N3 had a race save and they took it out for N4,
but rather, GPL had no race save feature and neither does N4 or N2002.
Now I am not convinced a race save would be easy or tidy with these newer
titles, If you look back, the other titles that are on par or close to
N4/N2002 in physics levels rarely have a race save feature either. I know
Nascar Heat has no race save and I don't think F1 2001 does either...However
both of those do have a wear accelerator to bring more pitstops to shorter
races.
