F1 2001 - Is it a performance hog like F1 2000?

Forgive my igorance but I've been out of the loop for a while. It seems F1 2001 is getting lots of praise here and since my only experience with EA's PC F1 sims is with F1 2000, I have some reservations. My biggest concern is performance. How does it run? F1 2000 was a dog on my Celeron 700, TNT2 combo. I currently have an AMD 1.33ghz with a GF2 MX 32 meg card and 256 meg of system ram. Will this setup allow me to run the game at 30-40+ fps in 800x600 or 1024x768 with most details set to high during a race? Also, did the latest patch improve performance at all? Thanks.
carl I am getting 15fps at the start and 26 ~28 full field everything max with a cel450.... still ok to race, what sort of fps are you getting now ??? did you use FRAP1.7 ? it is less load on the system "Carl Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:reUh8.44241$[email hidden]... > Forgive my igorance but I've been out of the loop fora while. Sounds like you have a good system for it. F1 2001 runs pretty good on my 1600+ (1.4Ghz) AMD/GF3 Ti200/512ram/Win98SE. I have it set to max at 1024x768. After upping the LOD values for a better view of cars at a distance, the only frameiness I get is right at the start of a race. I should pick something to reduce so that will stop. BTW, I had F12KCS, and I could never get it running properly on this AMD or a 733Mhz PIII. I eventually gave up. Luckily, I only wasted about $15 from ebay, instead of the $40-50 in a store. But it made it hard to buy F1 2001. I found it in a store for $17.95, I figured that it was worth the risk for the FIA-GT mod. Also, I didn't notice any frame rate improvement with the patch. But I've only had F1 for about 2 months, so I haven't really played it much without the patch. Good luck with it... F1 2001 runs dramatically better on a GF3+ than on a GF2. You'll have to turn the detail down a little for an MX, but it's really CPU that affects the speed at the start of a race (unless you have smoke turned on) I've got everything set on medium with my XP2000+ and GF2MX400 and it looks fairly good and is quite smooth (~40fps). P.S. The Ti 4600 is in transit... ; )
I have a full field and pretty much everything maxed out or set to high, at 1024 X 768, running on a 1.4 GHZ ATHLON with a VooDoo 5 with 2X antialiasing turned on, and it generally runs about 35 FPS, dipping into the 20's at the start of a race. Looks awesome. "Damien Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a69rjj$co96l$[email hidden]... > F1 2001 runs dramatically better on a GF3+ than on a GF2. Okay, thanks for everyone's feedback on this! I think I'll pick up a copy since my rig should be able to run it at a reasonable frame rate. And maybe it's time to get a GF3 Ti... ;-) "Carl Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:reUh8.44241$[email hidden]... > Forgive my igorance but I've been out of the loop for a while.
