Scott.... I couldn't find it either.....as reported by several others in the last two days. Is it no longer on the site? TP PS: We should probably update it for N2002......don't you think?
Sorry Tom... Been busy and haven't read the group in a few days. We took the PSMag site down quite awhile ago and I don't think that guide is located anywhere on the Pits site any longer. I have to admit to losing alot of interest in sim racing over the last year or two, so I had/have no interest in running a site. I like NR2002 alot, but I still haven't been sim racing as much as I use to. I actually spend more time playing WWII Onlne than racing. ;) I was hoping I'd find the excitement I use to have on TEN when NR2002 came out on OLR (Onlineracin.com).. but that hasn't happened as OLR has not taken off real well as they seem to promote the "gamers" atmosphere with 10% races with no cautions or damage. *shrugs* -- Scott B. Wow, Scott....hate to lose you to sim racing. I hope your interest will be rekindled somehow, some way. I know I felt similarly to you a couple times over the last year........but work we're doing at PR got me through it. The fragmentation of the sim racing community through the loss of a "TEN-like" central place to meet for casual pickup racing and "community".......without all the "gamers"......has been a major loss, IMHO. I'm not sure I have "answers" any better than others......but we'll be trying to fix this over the next year. Keep in touch.... Tom "Scott B. If Scott actually thinks WW2 Online is more fun than online racing, all hope is lost for him :-/ Man, WW2 online must be the biggest pile of crap I ever played! Andre
I'll still be around.. I'm just not racing online much since as you stated, the community is extremely fragmented. I have some friends racing here, some there, some not at all, some only offline, etc. I miss logging on to TEN and knowing I could find all the "group" around and racing. -- Scott B. Have you tried it lately or just initially? I just began playing over the last month after being "harrassed" by Tom Wheeler to try it out. <G> It has a steep learning curve but once you learn, its alot of fun. If you are looking for cutting edge graphics, then no.. WWIIO is definitely not for you. I love hopping in a Matilda and blowing German PZ to bits. Ranking doesn't mean a whole lot, but I'm a Captain and about 1/3 progress towards being Major. -- Scott B. I tried it a month or so ago, there was this free 2-week subscription deal. I really don't care for funky graphics or stuff like that, it was really the gameplay of WW2 online that disappointed me so much. I must admit it was very confusing what the actual goal was, as a soldier I run around not knowing who the enemy was, and the numerous other players online didn't seem to know what the goal was either. I tried the tanks, the controls were frustrating and silly, and the airplane physics reminded me of the first flightsims I played on my C64. Have you ever tried Operation Flashpoint? That's my favorite online fps, I had some fantastic online battles, but unfortunately the multiplayer of OF is a bit unstable/buggy and you can't join a battle in progress. Not much good when people disco so much :-/ Perhaps if I would give WW2 online more time I would have started to like it, but after 2 weeks testing I decided it was junk :) Andre
Andre, WWIIO has a VERY steep learning curve. I was frustrated too the first nights I was on. Didn't know how to exit the game, what did what, etc. The documentation is horrible. However, I use my HOTAS for tanks, flying, etc and its very easy to configure. You just go into keymapper, select the item you want to set by double clicking, then you just push the botton, or whatever on the device you want to use to control that. It's pretty easy to determine the enemy. If you don't see a name above or around it... it's the enemy. ;) I thought the flight model was pretty well done. I think its the same guys from either aces high or warbirds.. not 100% sure on that though. It reminded me quite a bit of Combat Flight Simulator 2. The only problem I had was before I built this new machine, my fps would go to nill in flight as the flight model, along with firing, etc really taxes the system. They have a "bootcamp" channel on the radio (very important to learn the radio, channels, etc) that you report to a location and someone takes you through the basics. VERY helpful. Tune your radio to HQ channel and you will see alot of the allied (or axis) commands and you can 'hear' where the battles are, where they need help, armor or infantry, etc. Selecting missions is the best way to know what you are doing. It specifies your target and objectives as well as where your spawn point is. Having a squad is even better. They now have a dynamic map up at www.wwiionline.com where you ca see where the lines are drawn, supply routes, who owns what city or bases, etc. It's not perfect, thats for sure. But I enjoy it and try and play a few times a week when I can. But then again, I'm not "as" picky with my gaming as I am when it comes to sim racing. ;) -- Scott B. You tell me.. but GPL and IL2 had very steep learning curves too, yet from the beginning it was obvious both sims were worth the invested time. I tried WW2 for 2 weeks, it was far from impressive and the huge amount of bugs and disconnections didn't help much either :-/ A typical combat session for me went like this: - wait a long while untill finally a truck comes to pick me up - wait untill the truck arrives at the battlefield (10-15 minutes) - get shot before I can even leave the truck - wait untill the game reloads - etc etc Or: - walk around for 2 hours without finding a single enemy I never used those radio channels though (couldn't be bothered reading that manual with the size of War&Peace) so I guess after reading your post that when you invest the time in it, it can be fun. But I rather invest my time in some hardly-needed N2002 practice :) Andre

Hmm... other than the occasional sound bug (yeah, there are still a few bugs <G>).. I like the sounds. Hearing fire in the distance, the sound of the planes dive bombing, the mg chatter, trying to determine if that engine sound you hear is from a friendly armor or a enemy, etc. If you are hit with the bomb.. you won't hear anything. Then something was wrong on my end, since I heard nothing beside my own fire.

Opening the hatches, and hopping to different places wasn't a problem. But I didn't know about the zoom feature, that explains some things. Some tanks you could stick your head out to get a better view, but this didn't work for that French beast.
