Put on the 27.42's tonight...MUCH faster performance both in a window or full screen. but, I can only manage about 3 laps or so before a hard lockup. I have an Antec case with 350 watts are their power supplies considered good for AMD chips? This is with the LWFF btw...perhaps I'm just not installing the new drivers properly...I'll try and give a step by step account. Somebody tell me if I'm screwing up. 1. unzip new drivers into a temp folder 2. in device manager, remove the gf3ti 200 and then, before shutting down, using detonator destroyer to remove about 4 or 5 other files... 3. reboot, the computer detects the card and tries to put 23.11 drivers on...but I stop that and browse to the 27.42 temp folder and the computer finishes it's loading. 4. reboot, installed drivers... 5. re-run the n2002 3d config and then launch the sim. run qualifying with no problem...if I practice, a lockup will occur eventually...so right to qualify..and then to the race. Framerate is EXCELLANT...but after about 3 laps of drafting, I get a hard lockup. I had run several test sessions with the 23.11 drivers but when I move to the faster/newer drivers I get the old lockup bugaboo again. dave henrie
Dave... Don't recall seeing this, what ops system are you running on your new system? Win98SE still (I hope)? The method you show below for installing new drivers is not one I've ever seen or heard of for Nvidia drivers. I'm not saying it won't work....but its not even in the ballpark of the steps as indicated in the NV readme that comes with most of the driver sets....at least not for Win98SE its not. Besides, the 27.xx and up all self-install anyway....just unzip them to a temp folder and run the setup.exe. Also, after installing new drivers, you often have to reset your video card settings in Riva Tuner.....they often get reset to the "defaults"...and that's no good. You also have to reset your monitor refresh rate....in the standard windows/settings....remember to reset your desktop color depth too. Have you fixed your swap file settings yet? Are you running 2x or 4x AGP? TP "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:44Yh8.1212$q2.861@sccrnsc01...

speedwise in a windowthe two driver sets are closer but the 27.42's are a little faster than the 23.11's in a window...but in full screen with no fsaa or anistrophy or other doodads, the 23.11's barely move...less than 10fps but scream in the 60's and 70's with 27.42 I'll attempt a few more installs... see what I can accomplish. Using win98se btw. dave henrie "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a69kh9$ckjiq$[email hidden]... > Some drivers just don't work well for some systems. Some drivers just don't work well for some systems. That's probably why Nvidia lets us have so many different versions, albeit most of them declared as 'beta'. Since you say the sim runs faster with the 27.42, it could also be that you've given them different, faster settings which taxes the system higher and then as a consequence causes the lockups. Especially WinXP seems to have a tendency be more sensitive than other OS's to drivers that tax certain system resources. If this is the case, a way of avoiding lockups is to reduce overclocking, set RAM speed to 'By SPD', etc. The most likely settings for performance leaps are Vsync, FSAA, Anisotrophy, but if you've played with the D3D acceleration settings, that could also be a place to look at. I'm surprised that the 27.42 are faster for you than the 23.11, especially since you say 'much'. Actually, the difference between the two is marginal, with the 23.10, 23.11 and 23.12 having a somewhat better visual quality than the 27.42. If you see a big performance leap, you most likely have given the 27.42 different settings from the 23.11, which could explain both the performance and the lockups. read the readme eH? Ok I re-installed the 27.42's by using the same procedure as described in the readme file. I was able to get a 7 and 12 lap practice sessions completed with full screen and fast fpsand NO lockups...so this is encouraging. For good measure I loaded up F1 2001 and except for lower fps, it seems good to go as well. g'night.!! dave henrie "

I'm the one who yesterday you recommended to look at my swap file settings to fix my temporary screen pauses. I have tried a number of different settings, but the problem continues. I'm going to roll back to my previous video drivers (easy with XP) and see what happens. David G Fisher
Me and all my friends with either Win9x/ME have found the 23.11s to be total dogs. This dosen't seem to be the case with 2000/XP however. MadDAWG
I don't know if this is your problem, but I started having lockups and could not figure out what was going on. I even did a fresh install of Win98 and was still having lockups. I finally figured out it was the VIA chipset drivers. I was trying to use the latest 4in1 drivers, I finally went back to the 4in1 that shipped with my MB and everything started working. In XP I was able to use latest 4in1 drivers, but in 98 I have to use old drivers. Brian Oster On Fri, 08 Mar 2002 05:34:56 GMT, "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Just for the sake of exchanging information, the 23.10 run extremely well on my WinME / W2K combo, and have a nicer image qual than the 27.xx Achim "MadDAWG" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Me and all my friends with either Win9x/ME have found the 23.11s to betotal > dogs. Just did 50 laps with a full field and although I wrecked several times, the machine did not. Framerate was ok until I caughtup with Dale Jr. His car was squashed on the top and dropped my fps down...once I got by him it came back up.. Looks like that hardware problem has been resolved. Thanks all. dave henrie
They really need to do something about the way the frame rate drops so badly when the cars are damaged. David G Fisher "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:l8hi8.7647$[email hidden]...
