Take a look at it. You cant pretend that it's a great deal better than GP3. It looks a little better - much of that can be put down to the fact that it's a 320 x 240 movie of what would be 800x600 or more on the screen so it's a form of antialiasing. Throughout the movie there are the same occasional slowdown that I've seen with GP2 and GP3. Weather looks good - again. cars Cockpits look crap again Cars look they're on rails AGAIN Setup screens have been updated (afterall - the interface strucutre was the same in GP3 as it was with GP1) and about bloody time - but still the same arbitrary setup values - showing that the physics engine will probably remain largely unchanged otherwise he'd have got round to having proper values for wing settings and gear ratios. Frankly - same shit - differen title imho. OO look - a PIT CREW. How nice. That must have taken 18 months - afterall - what the hell else were they doing. Doug

Harsh!!! ... but fair! :O) ~Paul T I can't get the video, server must be choked, but to be totally 'fair' we need to see the game. He is probably right, all the things he described were things that detracted from gp3 so unless those are somehow fixed, we are looking at an old engine with new clothes...but....I do want to wait til we have the real thing to pick on. dave henrie
To be honest I was blown away with the video. The cars / track/weather effects/ pit crews and scenery look more real than ever before and we dont know about the physics engine as yet. What are you guys expecting from a Formula 1 game? The racing simulation genre is designed so that it looks like you are racing real cars at real tracks. It is not meant to be wolfenstein where you can come up with new gameplay each time. The 'simulation' of racing F1 cars is the whole point . I will definately buy it! Being very cynical after the release of GP3 is logical, the screenshots of GP4 were far for mindblowing, but the video of GP4 is simply damn impressive! Another great post from Doug E (Douglas Ellison) from Leicester in England,UK. Quite possibly the highest volume poster to sim racing forums in the World. Also razor sharp with his tongue ;-) Go Go Doug ... Morgan

"Douglas Ellison" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:<a6kmd7$fa9ff$[email hidden]>... > Weather looks good - again. cars > > Cockpits look crap again Hm. I prefer the GP3 cockpit to the F1 2001 cockpit, even if it's not fully realistic. I seriously wonder if ISI spent all their time on the Ferrari cockpit and then just threw together whatever they had for everything else. The Williams cockpit makes me feel like I'm playing Pole Position 2001, if Pole Position 2001 had been released in 1997 for a Voodoo Banshee. > Cars look they're on rails AGAIN Hm. Modern F1 cars driving on the ultra smooth tracks of today pretty much look like they're driving on rails. With all of the steering assistance and aids off I never really experienced the 'driving on rails' feeling most people attributed to GP3. It's really tough to call tho since F1 2001 is likely a more refined physics engine running on unrealistically bumpy tracks and GP3/4 is a less refined (not that we know anything about GP4's physics) physics engine driving on more realistic, smooth tracks. I'm sure if you took a GP3 car and stuck it on an F1 2001 track, it would be bouncing wildly all over the place. Likewise, I don't think F1 2001 cars would be nearly as much of a handful on realistically smooth tracks. > Frankly - same shit - differen title imho. Geez. I'm not going to say you're wrong, but that's only because I (and no one outside the beta testers) have no idea one way or the other. At least pretend you're not biased until after the game comes out so your arguments are more convincing. > OO look - a PIT CREW. How nice. That must have taken 18 months - > afterall - what the hell else were they doing. Hm. From what I can tell, adding real Direct3D support (Hardware T&L, Antialising, etc), creating realistic tracks using GPS, and updating the physics model (per Gamespot - again, I have no idea, but at least the different car makes are different now). The irony is that it sounds like they've done as much work as Papyrus did between Nascar 4 and 2002 and yet they're getting praised left and right. Then again everyone criticized N2002 before it came out so we'll have to see. My money is on...well, honestly, I have no idea. Should be an interesting summer with GP4/F1-2002 regardless of which is better. I'm sure they'll continue to share the same basic flaws. Something tells me GP4 will raise the bar further than F1-2002 does, but who knows. Now if Sierra/Papy would just get some friggen FIA licensing we could see what these cars/tracks really drive like, and end the arguments once and for all. =) Jason
> Cars look they're on rails AGAIN That's true when viewing the whole car in a tv-mode. Its not on rails when using the cockpit view. lock

They owe that to GPL and its faithfull following... Bart Westra

GPL remains major fun as ever, but with the extra knowledge papy now has of tire modelling, it wouldn't be THAT much work to implement it in GPL.. improve some graphics here and there, throw in a couple of new tracks and presto we have GPL2 :) Andre

Don't call it GPL2, you'll scare them off ;-) I'd settle for GPL1.3, with no extra tracks, just enhanced physics and some menu settings for bandwidth, force feedback etc. Ideally all add on tracks and utils like Vroc would still work. Bart

Unlucky, mate, I sold my copy back to the shop I got It from for the same price I paid for it :) Gerry

A $50 upgrade pack or GPL2 with the 1967 season again but the N2002 refinements would be sweet. Personally, I'd most be into GPL76. Just think about this: Niki Lauda (Ferrari) Mario Andretti (Lotus) Jody Scheckter (6-wheeled Tyrrell!!) James Hunt (Mclaren) John Watson (Penske) Now as if driving the 6-wheeled Tyrrell wouldn't be cool enough in an of itself, check out the schedule (last year of the N'Ring, thanks to Lauda's horrific crash): Interlagos Kyalami Long Beach Jarama Zolder Monte Carlo Anderstorp Paul Ricard Brands Hatch Nurburgring Osterreichring Zandvoort Monza Mosport Park Watkins Glen Fuji If they could take the N2002-caliber physics model with these tracks/cars/drivers and added rain effects I would pay $400+ for it. I'm not exaggerating either. Without rain effects I'd still pay $200-300. Jason
