How can I get my Momo to give me more cotrol of the steering? It's a bit
sloppy. I have the deadzone set to 0.
There seems to be a delay between my turning and the steering reacting to my
movement.

Fixing sloppy Momo wheel steering in F1 2001
Tore Hanson asked how to remove the steering delay with his Logitech Momo in EA's F1 2001. Suggestions included the Wingman DX Deadzone utility, the Momo tweak software, adjusting in-game sensitivity, and a DXTweak fix from the SimBin forums for pedal deadzones in split-axis mode. Several users confirmed that these fixes worked, and jason moyer noted that Papyrus sims read raw calibration and so were unaffected, while the fix could upset Rally Trophy.
Automated summary.

In which game? First of all go to
http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm
and download the DX Deadzone utility. Run it and make sure all
deadzones are set to 0.
After that set the deadzones in your game to 0.
Also, if the game supports it, set the wheel to full lineair. If the
steering becomes a bit too twitchy for you, move down the lineair bar
a little, but you want it as high as you can handle.
Hope it fixes your problem, if not let us know :)
Andre
Unfortunately I use W2K. Deadzone says to use with onlt Win98 and/or ME. I'm
playing F1/2001. According to the game setup all the deadzones are at zero.
I have the X sensitivity at 100% which I assume is full linear in this game.
I adjusted the Momo to run at 70% everything and it seems to help, but it's
still not as exact/sensitive as I get in GPL.

Dam-da-da-daaaaam:
"DXDeadZone allows you to change deadzone settings of a DirectInput
game controller. This utility works with Windows 98, Windows 98se,
Windows Me, and Windows 2000."
Ah, F1 2001.. well, to keep a long story short, I've spend HOURS on
tweaking the controls of my Momo in F1 2001 without any good results.
Besides the FF not being as good as most people describe how it should
be, I also have a major deadzone in my pedals. The only way to get rid
of that is to select single axis.
I tried all the suggestions I got, it isn't because of the Momo,
people with different wheels report the same problems, so finally I
gave up.
Having much fun now with N2002 which took me 10 seconds to configure
:)

F1/2001 took me at least 5 attempts
to get it working with their 2 patches. Then it felt like I was trying to
drive a school bus without power steering. Now it feels a lot like my
personal car did before I got a few key front end components replaced. I
used to drive a 1975 AMC Pacer (fishbowl). The steering was a little better
than the rope we used to use on our sidewalk race cars. What a joke.
I guess F1/2000 was really meant for the "Need for Speed" crowd. Its a bad
sign when it takes numerous tries to install the software and then the
steeering feels like it's possessed.
I am more convinced than ever that i wastes my money. I'll go back to GPL
until a worthy sucessor of this genre is released. I have N4 but I'm just
not into oval racing. A good Cart 2002 would be something I would be
interested in.

Split Axis, single Axis...doesn't matter, so long as I can take that big
bad GT MOD Viper out for a spin, and another spin and another spin...who
cares how I try and control it...???
Dav-10 Henrie
I'm gonna give the "non split axis" a try before I write this game off.
I would hope the CART sim would be based on the N2002 engine? GPL works
great and I understand N2002 is even better in terms of functionality. I
would be driving Nascar but I find the rules too complicated.

The rules aren't too tough once you have them explained...basically...:)
turn left...repeat as necessary. :)
Here are some links to the two efforts converting F1 2001 to CART.

and the official site ...I believe this will not be a mod so much as
tweeking the core F1 2001 code to work with Cart.

Malaysia to see what all the fuss was about in F1. The steering was a lot
better so I went back to split access and the steering was still very good.
Either the Momo Tweak or I judged F1/2000 prematurely because I was very
happy with the feel of the steering. Previous to this I only went to driving
school and didn't do very well. I decided to go back to driving school and
I'm pleased with my efforts.
I think I'll hold off shelving this sim. I also turned on some graphics etc.
Starting to learn where things are hidden. I somehow lost the HUD but I'll
read the manual to find out how to activate it. I can't read the LED on the
wheel...too small for my vision.
I'll check out your web sites re: CART from F1/2001.

No, I'm convinced F1 2001 is a very good sim, and I love the GT mod..
but with the controller problems and all those bugs it just isn't fun
to drive. I really hope F1 2002 won't have these controller problems
anymore :-/

I remember at first Momo was behaving strange in F1 2001, until I started toying around

it works like a charm... I'm not the fastest out there.. but its fun fun fun. And make sure to
turn on some centering spring effects in the Momo control panel.. some 25% should do
nicely. Also custom made plr files with good FFB settings are to be found on the Hugh
Gear Forum.
Works great for GT mod as well.. some people just cant get the hang of those big mean
machines.. but on my wheel they are a dread to drive.

I have my Momo currently set at 70% for everything including the centering
spring. I use split axis. I made some changes to the PLR file but that's
another discussion.
In the game I have only 3 controller sliders X, Z and RZ set to 100%. All
the others are 0%. I use "throttle help" which is like traction control that
is used in F1 these days. Anti skid or ABS as I know it is also used in F1
as far as I know. When I learn differently I'll turn it off.
I guess it's not possble to use the HUD in cockpit view. I can't read the
LED (too small at 600x800). Perhaps I'll have to drive using the the TV
Cockpit view...who really cares eh?

Your other link worked fine with a bit of cut and pasting :)
It sounds like it should work, but that means I have to change the
dx-values each time I switch between f1 2001 and another sim.
But.. I'll give it a shot, thanks :)

Doh! Looks like some of the link got cut off in my post. Anway, for GPL it
did not seem to matter that I had these Dxtweak settings as it felt the
same. I don't know about any other sims though.

I fixed it with DXtweak. For games that have ingame calibration, like
GPL, it's not affected. I play GPL every now and then and DXtweak
didn't screw it up.
Somehow Papy sims, even using the DirectInput driver, seem to read raw
calibration information instead of the DX calibration values.
However,
the F1 2001 pedal-fix will cause problems in Rally Trophy. When I
first bought RT I couldn't believe how bad the pedals felt, sort of
like on-off switches, but then I realized I had changed the calib
values via dxtweak. Setting them back to normal values fixed the RT
pedal problem.
