Hi all: I have a couple of questions regarding fixed setup races in N2002: 1. Let's say a online race is using the default Fast setup as their fixed setup. Is it possible for somebody to change their own fast setup prior to the race and save it as the default fast setup or are the setup data transmitted from the server which would guaranty that everybody has the same setup? I really hope that the server pushes the entire setup data to the client (as opposed to just the setup name) otherwise cheating is possible big time in this game. 2. When the fixed setup is used, what setup is in use for the qualifying session? Is it the same setup that is in use for the race (and practice) or is it the default qualifying setup that comes with the game? Thank you for your help.

1) You can't save changes to the default setups. The game will prompt you to save it under a different name. I know the game will change your track.ini settings if they are different from the servers so hopfully if someone hacked the default setups I too would hope it would catch it. 2) I belive its the same setup for all sessions. In N4 I got into a fixed race for Daytona and the server was using a qualifing engine. Needless to say nobody finished because we all blew up. 3) One thing to keep in mind is the fixed setups are still tweakable. One of my tricks is to play with the liner setting in the controller. If the setup is loose then lower the setting and if its tight raise it. MadDAWG

E.P. Hey man! just go back to GPL, and nobody will get hurt <G> Anyway, maybe my post will receive the "DUH" of the year award, but what I have seen and experienced is the server pushes the setup to everyone... I finally caught a papyserver that was fixed setups, got boss, set the track to homestead... I didn't know that I could hide the entry list, and then set which setup was used. Also I had never been to homestead offline or online in 2002. so guess which setup papy server pushed out to everyone to use??? As far as I can tell, you can pick <none> as a setup... giving you a absolutely neutral car. I must say that was one hell of a race, 6 of us could actually drive that track without any setup. it was like racing in a cloudburst, just before they throw the yellow IMHO. what is funny is I wonder how many times a NEWBIE got on early morning or so, grabbed up a server expecting it to be fixed fast setup? then couldn't drive even one lap... lol "E. Whatever setup the boss has loaded when he starts the serveris what gets pushed to the clients. This could be <fast> or it could be a custom setup. Regardless, whatever the boss loads on his end is loaded into everyone's client as the fixed setup. Tested it, that's how it works. We worried about hacking last year in our league and we tried to hack it and could not. > > 2. When the fixed setup is used, what setup is in use for the > qualifying session? It my understanding that the same setup is used throughout, especially since there is the 1 engine rule in place. Papy is quiet about this since in fixed setup racing, Q times are generally better than the best lap times that occured in practice...Maybe their code pumps up the ponies automatically for Q, but the fixed setup is supposed to be the only thing ever loaded in the car over the entire weekend. > Thank you for your help.
1. The setup data is transmitted from the server. Note that it's possible that the server has modified one or more of the default setups, so the 'Fast' setup in a fixed race may not necessarily be the same 'Fast' setup that shipped with the game. 2. The setup the server has selected as the fixed setup is used for all sessions. - Eric "E. P." <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

RE #1: Is this different from N4? In N4 the server option for fixed setup brought up the setups listed in the admin/bosses track setup files (not his personal tracks/setups folder) and the boss could choose from any he had installed and that is what was pushed to the client. I called several of my racers while we were online to compare setups (that can be seen but not altered) and they were running a setup I had chosen off my system as the boss which happened to be some Doug Arnao setups, not installed on the server. We have only used <fast> thus far in NR2002 so one could not determine whether or not the server was downloading the host's <fast> or its own <fast> setup...Either way, the setup is pushed to the client, Im now just confused as to the exact location of the setup that is being used...
No, it works the same way in N4 and NR2002. If you are setting up a normal dedicated server that it looping through tracks, then the fixed setup selected on the server will be transmitted to all of the connected clients. However you are correct that if the server is setup in Open mode (or otherwise has a boss or admin connected who has set the race options), the fixed setup will come from their system and not the server. - Eric "Admin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:fwqk8.521$[email hidden]... > RE #1: Is this different from N4? Thanks for the confirmation Eric. I wasn't even thinking about looping servers at all, now it makes since to me. Eric Busch <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a6teg6$pf6$[email hidden]...

In Nascar 4 the qualifying session always used qualifying motors. Based on Eric's comments, I would assume that the Q session online in N4 (not 2002 since there's only 1 engine) used the same setup as the practice/warmup/race sessions but with a qualifying engine dumped in it.
