Busch and NCTS for N2002?

Will Papyrus release Busch or Truck add-ons for NR2002?

Timmy Ferrell asked about Busch Series or Craftsman Truck add-ons for NASCAR Racing 2002. Posters noted that N4's files contained hooks for other classes, debated whether Sierra or Papyrus had turned against expansion packs after the poor sales of the bundled Truck pack, and Papyrus's Eric Busch disputed claims that an N4 expansion had ever been promised. jason moyer suggested a polite letter campaign asking for add-ons or new open-wheel sims.

Hi All, Anyone hard anything about a Busch/NCTS update for N2002? It's a shame that at least the Busch series was left out of the original game (unlike N3) Anything in the works? Tim #3tferrell

Pure speculation, but I would not hold my breath. It isn't just the physics and graphics, it also new tracks. Apprently too much work for Papy...sorry Papy for the slam, but a LOT of folks would like to see the trucks and new tracks. I have owned the NR series since verision 1, but did not go online or join a league until the CTS addon came out for N3 and I dearly miss the trucks. We want to race the truck, hehe.

Well now that Papy has a good produst in NR2002 I hope they do the add-on thing. I'd love to see Busch and the trucks. Good for Papy and bad for us is that the Busch and CTS series are running more of the same tracks and dumping tracks that truly made each series specail. MadDAWG
"Admin" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:<M6tm8.1800$[email hidden]>... > Apprently too much work for > Papy... Why do you think this is Papyrus' decision? If you look through the .ini files for Nascar 4, you'll see that someone at Papyrus had apparently expected a Busch or Truck expansion since there is a place to define physics for different vehicle types. If there is not a Busch or Craftsman expansion, it will be because Sierra doesn't view them as money makers, not because Papyrus isn't interested. If Papyrus called the shots, we'd probably have Grand Prix Legends 2 and Indycar 3 by now. Jason

N4 and N2002 have a file structure and online reporting that can easily allow more than one class or division of racing. They've even got a coloum for it on the N4 multiplayer server selection screens...(haven't checked 2002 yet tho) so I would think they have at least explored this avenue...I would think the disappointing retail response to the CTS truck pak for N3, retailors wouldn't even stock the product, probably put the Kibosh(kie-Bosch)<think David Hobbs> on any more trackpak/expansion efforts by Papyrus. dave henrie

That is true, but there was a definitive change in philosophy after that. Their policies changed, they no longer consider expansion packs to be something worth the effort. It's a shame. Perhaps they should change their company logo from "Papyrus Racing Games" to "Papyrus Annual Stockcar Games". Hehe ;) Hopefully, there is something different. CMON NOW, just something different. We aren't necessarily asking the biggest/best/greatest. Just... something... different... You guys gambled in 1994 when you released something called "Nascar Racing". -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- http://www.ymenard.8m.com/ -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimato Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...
While I agree with your point about about retailers not wanting to stock it based on past sales I think that was Seirra's fault. The only way to get the CTS retail local was to get the Accel pack which included N3,CTS, and Legends. For those of us that already had N3 and Legends it was very overpriced. If they would have made the CTS pack available outside of buying direct from Seirra I think it would have done alot better. I remeber the original Busch series addon for N2 was a good seller. One of the better $20 I had spent at the time. MadDAWG

Do you think that might have been because of all the problems and bad press with N4? If you look at the general reactions to NR2002 vs. N4 I think it made sense to dump N4 ASAP. > It's a shame. that's because they hadn't spent any time with it. There's a big difference between the two imo. "Biz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:tHHm8.155$[email hidden]... > What about all the bad press for 2002? FOr the 1st few weeks there seemedso many bitter posts

I totally agree, but I believe it still is hurting the sales of 2002, and might doom any chances of add-ons like CTS or Busch. Although I can only hope. I think the idea of add-on packs for different series is a great idea, but the ROI might be too low for a company to pursue it these days. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash Phillip Malphrus, Jr. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > that's because they hadn't spent any time with it. I personally think, and it's pure speculations, that something or somebody changed either in the executive section of Sierra or Papyrus and he clearly decided to go against the Expansion pack. Because, they *clearly* stated there would be an expansion pack for N4. I mean, it was in their plan but it suddenly disappeared. WHere did you see that? As soon as the rumour of any expansion pack or add-on started floating around, I remember it being shot down by someone from papy. In other words, almost completely opposite of what you have written. As much as it pains me Eric, you are correct. I read from somone on Papy's N4 forum (may have been you or a developer or a mod) that there was to be no expansion pack for N4. Also, it went on to state that support (patches) from N4 was also gone due to moving on to a *new* project which I am now guessing was NR2002... I hate that an expansion pack has to make so much money that they aren't even considered anymore. To me, the trucks were more fun to drive, as would Busch cars with their similar HP and shorter wheel base. Why can't Papy's code be worked on like Heat's could? At least someone invented trucks and even some open wheel models for theirs even though the NR series from Papy has always been my fav...

Maybe the publisher has, but I would hesitate to blame the developer without sitting in on design meetings. On the other hand, as we've seen, Sierra is willing to support Papyrus efforts when it comes to Nascar Winston Cup but that's about it. If Sierra said "make an expansion pack" I think Papy would jump at the chance. Jason

Do you remeber what it was like over on the Seirra boards with N4? A buddy had some of the Seirra guys all but swearing at him. I think alot of the "should have been a patch" flack is more for the ones that were not happy with N4. Its just human nature to want something for nothing so of course everyone wanted it to be a patch. MadDAWG

I never go near the sierra boards for just such reasons. If I am understanding what you are saying is, anyone that considered the N4 should have been a patch for N3 is just nuts. Everyone of course is entitled to their opinion, but even if they feel 2002 should have been a patch, then they are missing something. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash MadDAWG <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Do you remeber what it was like over on the Seirra boards with N4? Whatever Sierra's intentions > are to force Papyrus, they cannot deny it. I would agree with that. I just feel like it's unfair to blame Papyrus for the lack of open-wheeled sims since GPL when people like Dave Kaemmer have indicated that they'd jump at the chance to do one. It's really sad that Sierra has no interest in a new openwheeled sim. Back when Indycar 2 came out and I still had a 486 66, I couldn't even go back to Nascar 1, and I was primarily a Nascar fan then who still steered with the keyboard. I can't even imagine how thrilling a GPL2 or an Indycar 3 or even a sportscar or modern F1 sim would be if it used the current refinements of the GPL engine. Nascar 2002 is great, and I love oval racing in stock cars, but it would be fantastic to have something road-course oriented lightweight cars. Jason
Is there anyone at Sierra who can lobbied for this sort of thing, assuming it's their decision to not have one? Seriously, I'm wondering if a coordinated, polite "is there going to be an expansion pack for N2002?" or "is there going to be a sequel to GPL or ICR?" campaign could be of some use. Nothing rude or demanding, but I have to wonder how Sierra would react if we could generate a few hundred email messages a day for a short while asking them about new products. I'm guessing that other than purchasing the latest Papy games, this is all we can really do to demonstrate our enthusiasm and hunger for more products to your publisher.
