RASCAR 100 at Dover results and screen-freeze woes

Phil Lee posted results of the RASCAR 100 at Dover, won by Joachim Trensz from Mitch Alatorre, with a second race at Phoenix. David G Fisher's races were ruined by recurring screen freezes, which others suggested were caused by heat or texture memory. The thread also covered pit-exit merge rules, the lap penalty for starting from the pits, and choosing future tracks to follow the Cup schedule.

We've just finished an excellent race at Dover. The first came after 43 laps. Everyone pitted for tyres with Achim sent to the back of the longest line for an unsafe pit exit. The second catuion came out with 29 laps to go. All the leaders pitted except me. I was in 4th position, the last car on the lead lap, and decided to gamble on my tyres making it to the end. Unfortunately this proved to be the wrong decision. I was passed a couple of laps after the restart and dropped back quickly. The race was excellent. I particularly enjoyed a spell of very close racing with Ginger and Mitch. Congrats to Achim on your win. Phil Lee #22 RSC Racing Ford --- Racesim Central Administrator http://www.racesimcentral.com

Lap 38, @$**% screen froze and I go right up into the wall. Pit, and now I'm down a couple of laps as yellow comes out right afterward. Race 2 at Phoenix, @$%#** screen freezes as I enter the back stretch on last lap in second place. I weave all over the track and end up causing Jan to bump me....race over. That's three out of the five races ruined by screen freezes, two on the last lap. Now that my cry baby whining is over, :-) I want to say that the r.a.s. races have been TREMENDOUS. Really excellent driving by everyone. I honestly can't think of one moment in any race where I've been upset with another driver or thought someone did something stupid or silly. Looking forward to next week already. Thanks Eldred for hosting. David G Fisher "Phil Lee" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:a8nv6h$t6dp4$[email hidden]...

I don't know what happens there. Why did you start in the pits? I had to start form the pits last week in the Bristol race when the "start" button wouldn't turn green after warm up was finished. I had one freeze in the Dover race and two in the Phoenix race. The first one in the Phoenix race happened about 3/4 of the way through during a caution so it wasn't a problem. Jan suggested it might be a heat problem, although it only happens in N2002. I think I'll take the case off and have a fan blow on the video card and see what happens. David G Fisher

Thanks for this valuable info, John. As you guys may have noticed I have little oval racing experience (I got that status of 5 on SW's by winning few races against many), which is why pitstops and similar aspects to me are close to unknown on oval type of tracks. I've of course read the manual and kept an open eye on comments from experienced oval racers, but that's just not the same as a good measure of personal experience. Hi Richard, I am not sure this is the same on all tracks, but this issue existed already in N4. I noticed it at Watkins Glen for example. It is my impression that it happens on tracks where you don't cross the s/f line when starting from the pits. The first lap that gets counted is the first lap you do after crossing the s/f line the first time. If that line is in a track location where you don't cross it when starting from the pits, this 'out'lap isn't counted. I think quite a few drivers must have reported this to Papy, and I was surprised to see this in N2002 as well. From this fact I concluded that this is obviously how it's supposed to be, i.e. how it's in real Nascar - everyone starting from the pits is a lap down at certain tracks. Is that so? Most likely didn't click into the race itself on time, by not finishing qualifying your basically taking a provisional and starting at the rear. Sorry I didn't make it guys, something came up and I had to run my daugher out and about.. I look foward to joining some of your races here soon. Just out of curiosity, you could try going into your appropriate renderer ini file and reduce the size of the texture set by a few MB. Perhaps the game is trying to use just a little tiny bit too much texture memory and eventually the drivers decide to just up and texture swap to death for a few seconds. I have no idea if this is a solution, but who knows. David G Fisher wrote:

The only reason you would start in the pits is if you didn't join the race before the pace lap started. At that point, you start in the pits, and you can't exit them until all of the cars have passed the exit to pit road. I know for 99.9% sure what your problem is David... I have lost countless points and races due to a freezing computer. ohhhhhh the agony the agony :( My problem turned out to be heat related... I installed a new fan and put the casing back on my computer a few weeks ago, since then I have not had one single freeze ... wooohoooo ;) It's the heat that cause your computer to freeze.. sounds a bit wierd *lol* Mikkel David G Fisher <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:gPUr8.265912$[email hidden]...

Too bad the hosting didn't give me any karma with better speed...<g> Oh well - I hadn't turned any laps at either of those tracks before yesterday, so my poor showing was to be expected. Hadn't planned to make the RAS race at ALL, but I got caught out by the time change and missed my MoG race. Damn... I did two pitstops, and both times I entered the pits in first position, and left them in 4th or 5th - which is to say, I don't need anyone to catch me. I can ruin my own race anytime, without anyone's help <bg> ... Homestead would be good for me since I have a league race there on the following Monday. Texas is also a fun track. Phil --- Racesim Central Administrator http://www.racesimcentral.com

Guys; When and where do you all race? is there a pw on the server? I might show up for a few races if that's ok. Gotta try to beat Achim at something! <g> [email hidden] (jason moyer) wrote in news:[email hidden]:

He's starting to think he's good. :-) We race on Eldred's epickett server at sierra.com on the weekend. I think it's usually going to be Saturdays. Password is ras. Race date, time, tracks, etc. is posted here at r.a.s sometime during the week. David G Fisher

Maybe we could do those this week (since Texas ran today) and then follow Jason's suggestion of racing the real Cup schedule from then on. -- David G Fisher

I just tried both those tracks for the first time tonight and you're right, Texas is a fun track. Really excellent. BTW, I uploaded my car file to the RASCAR forum at racesimcentral.com for any one who wants it. I've got all the ones there so far myself. David G Fisher

I joined with about 5 minutes in qual to see chat messages about the idiots who were causing problems. So, I killed the server. Since I didn't see you guys in the chat room, I just had to hope that you would notice that the race was back up...<g> >You probably haven't given it any thought yet, but any idea what the next >tracks will be?
