It's been a while since I've used 98 so I was wondering, would it be worthwhile to install 98 on another partition and use it to run games? The advantage I'm assuming may be better frame rates? thx "I want to share something with you: The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number 1: Cover for me. Number 2: Oh, good idea, Boss! Number 3: It was like that when I got here." -Homer Simpson

Go for XP instead, So far it's the best I've seen (for newer games that is, I haven't taken time to install GPL over it yet...) runs Rally Trophy, Nascar 2002, and F1 2001 with not a glitch. Plus it really rocks for a highspeed Internet connection I gained about 55 Kbps Downstream with it compared to my Win98 set-up. Thats from 90-110 Kbps to 145-165! Best solution I"ve found is dual boot Win98 / XP. I ran a triple boot while experimenting with XP (98 / 2000 / XP) and found I didn't need 2000 at all, so I formatted the available partition. Although XP runs almost everything, some seem to miss out (Medal of Honor is the only thing I've found), plus XP has the 'Run as...' mode where you can select which OS you want to run the program as. Someitmes works if you run a program on XP, as Win98. James "ck1" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Have you downloaded the patch from http://mohaa.ea.com/downloads/demo.html ? Seems to have fixed some problems for a few people. -- Chris H. Just saw your post. I went from 98 to 2000pro kast year. I only had 3 games that didn't make the move..Nascar99, F1 2000 and Sega Ralley...it may or may not have been the OS change, but they didn't make the transition. Win 2000 has been fine so far. The only older game I still use is SCGT. You might try posting at Speedsims.com they have always been pretty helpful for me. **** "Here we are on a planet moving and spinning though space at 500 miles per second...and look...my beer stays right there in the glass! I''m going to second this one. I ran 2000/98SE dual for about 3 years and then swtiched to XP/98SE. If you have the hard drive space, then go for it as there isn't really a reason not to. I do FAT32 on all my partitions except for my XP partition which I use NTFS for security, etc. That way, I can access my game directories from either OS. And if you find that you are barely using one of your OS', just go into your boot.ini file and change the delay time to like 5 seconds and you will barely notice that you have 2 OS as your boot times will be pretty much the same as if you had 1 OS. I play a lot of different games and there are still a handful of games that run faster on 98SE. In addition, I have had major problems using a combination of WinXP, KT133 chipset and a USB camera. This is a well documented problem, so I just gave up and whenever I use my web cam, I use 98SE. My two cents. You didn't give any info on your hardware, but generally speaking, I don't think it's worth it. I got 2000 Pro early and had lots of problems with drivers, especially crazy texture glitching with my GeForce 2. It was bad enough that I did what you are considering and ran a dual-boot system. The 2000/XP drivers are now relatively mature, and all of those hassles have disappeared, making dual-booting time consuming and a waste of drive space. I'm running 2 machines with 2000 Pro (Pentium 3 866 and 933), and a new Athlon 1.9+ with Windows XP. They're fast and stable and I'd dread going back to Windows 98. Tim
