Bragging about a new PC prompts critique and trolling

Gilligan showed off his new Pentium 4 system for NASCAR Racing. Others pointed out that pairing a GeForce2 and PC133 SDRAM with a fast CPU was unbalanced and listed cheaper, faster AMD builds. The thread also attracted a troll and jokes about spam.

Hello, I just built me a new system after several years with my old system and Nascar Racing runs like a scalded dog on this bad boy. I can barely hold on to the damn joystick, it likes to jump right outta my hand. This is ONE HELL'ava game box. Intel845WN Motherboard w/Sound & Lan Intel Pentium 4, 1.8 Ghz CPU Retail Box 1 Gig PC-133 SDRAM (Yes, ONE GIG of SDRAM) 60 Gig IBM Deskstar GXP 7200 RPM Hard Drive (Ultra DMA 100) Nvidia GE Force 2 TI w/64MB DDR (Super Fast) RAM - 4X AGP HP 24X CD R/RW Burner Teac 12X DVD Windows XP Home Edition Antec Mid Tower Case w 400 Wt Power Supply 3 Cooling Fans, one front, one rear, and one blowing over the hard drive. The case has a spot for all these fans. Plus the P/S fan and CPU fan, this thing sounds like a jet engine at idle. I LOVE this thing.... send me a check for $1700 plus $90 for shipping and I'll build the box and ship it to you. Seriously, I will... Aloha -- Jim

So that explains why Harvick acts like a Skaarj Warrior. -- See ya in the pits, Dean I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how long it's been since I've forgotten anything. I don't mean to brag, but I built a faster system for less.... The Asus MB's are awesome... PC-133 SDRAM is kinda slow these days... Of course faster CPUs are available, and for not much more... 16x DVD etc... Built one for my cousin for around $1500. -- -- "Gilligan" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Hello, > > I just built me a new system after several years with my old system and > Nascar Racing runs like a scalded dog on this bad boy. I priced out a system for a net friend of mine for about a $1000 for the box at newegg. AMD 1800XP ASUS MoBo Via 333 chipset 512 PC2700 ATI 8500 SB Audigy sound card CDR 80 gig hard drive.
ROFL Andre ! -John p.s. I built one just slightly less than his, for under a grand :) "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > And he tells me this AFTER I sent the check.. > > Andre

Also i will say as everyone else did, GF2 and SDRAM in 1.8ghz is a bit of a waste.... and in australia that is $3400 which is quite expensive considering it has no monitor (computer gear is cheaper in the states even when u convert the currency), and the last thing i want in my room is something that is loud, my friend has one that you can hear with his bedroom door closed and would drives that whole house insane after a few weeks on non-stop running and restarting. when I built the system, around xmas, the GF2 was the most affordable. I wanted a motherboard I could use my stock pile of SDRAM so I didn't have to buy any new stuff. The difference between the two looks good on paper, but in real life, it don't make much difference. Again, 1.8 at the time I bought the components, offered the most bang for the buck. If I built one today, it would be a 2.0 with a GF3 or 4 for the same price. But DDR Ram versus PC-133 doesn't show me anything with my eyes. -- Jim

and this may not be the ultimate gamers machine either, but it is for me. I use my PC to run my business and just do a few games for fun now and then, so to me, this IS the ultimate gamers machine, but its a business machine first.....I guess I should have explained that... and, Yes, I like using a Joy stick much better than the steering wheel and peddles. And I like the joystick better than a yoke in flight simulator, probably because I learned to fly with a stick and have thousands of flight hours using a stick.... to each his own!! -- Jim
