Sparse RASCAR race at California ends with fuel drama

Only a handful of drivers took part in the RASCAR race at California, which was spread out and had one caution. David G Fisher ran out of fuel on the last lap while leading by 15 seconds, having been unable to pit because B Farmer, who had taken a splash of fuel during an extra stop, was still on the lead lap. Memory-testing tools were also discussed as a fix for lockups.

Only a handful compared to the first race, and I think there was only one caution. It wasn't nearly as interesting because everyone was so spread out, and the setup wasn't exactly accomodating. The best part of the race was Dave running out of gas as he came out of turn 2 on the last lap. Not only did I get my lap back as he ran out of gas, but I also got to the finishline ahead of him on the next lap. My LPI is not above 20 with the help of both of today's races. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker & "programming deity" http://www.paddedwall.org/john DeMONS/1 for Nascar Racing 3 & Nascar Legends http://www.paddedwall.org/demons DeMONS/2 for Nascar Racing 4 and 2002 Season (in development) http://www.paddedwall.org/demons2 Barbarian Diecast Collector (460+ cars and counting) http://www.paddedwall.org/diecast If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================
The best part? :-) I had a 15 sec lead and supposedly had enough gas but even with taking it easy the last few laps, I still ran out with about a half a lap left. The reason I couldn't pit was because BFarmer was on the lead lap with me. He pitted twice during the first yellow and may have gottern fuel the second time (not sure) so he had just that tiny bit more than me. Either that or he simply burned less fuel during the race. If I had pitted I could of gotten a safe second but I decided to go for the win instead. It was fun, and I don't regret it. For anyone who cares or who has similiar problems with freezes, I finally solved my screen freeze issue. I had 320 megs of ram with 2 128 sticks and 1 64 meg stick. I took out the 64 megs and put in a new 128 (now 384 total) and didn't have one freeze at all today. Problem solved it seems. Sorry for missing yesterday's races. I went to see my football team, Notts County, avoid relegation to the bottom division in English football. After the relief of avoiding the drop I was too hyped up to feel like racing. I'll be back on track next week I hope. Phil --- Racesim Central Administrator http://www.racesimcentral.com

There is a way to diagnose it - run NR2K2... Hi Dave, it doesn't have to have been a bad memory chip. You know how a mobo will be using the fastest bank interleave scheme with just two sticks in and get slower with a third stick in. It could be that with a third stick of a different size put in, and perhaps different timings as well, the RAM access just got a lot slower overall. Anyway David, I'm glad you found the prob and could fix it. Achim "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:dEsw8.47231$[email hidden]...

In one of the leagues I race in, one of the fellows had a similar problem. His machine would lock up, but only when running GPL. Yeah, Dave... I did get fuel the second time, tho it couldn't have been much. That wasn't the reason for the second stop, tho. I had looped it in 3 & tagged the wall & had to pit twice to fix the damage. Came out first time when pace car was in turn 4 & chased around & pitted again. Dunno if I caused the yellow or not, someone else apparently also crashed somewhere else on the track at about the same time & said they needed a tow... With ~56 laps left, checked F3 & had 56 laps fuel left, so I started to conserve then. Didn't think I'd catch you, & was worried when you ran out of fuel that I would, too. I ran out on the cool down lap in turn 3. Sometimes ya gotta be good... sometimes ya gotta be lucky ;) Brian "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Pxow8.125859$[email hidden]...

After viewing the replay, I thought you were just being very clever. :-) That little splash of fuel you got in the second pit stop apparently was just enough.
