Hi,
I am very interested in obtaining an Australian Tasman series track
SANDOWN.
Unfortunately my skills arent good enough to attempt this myself, but
I can supply all details, many photos, and I have some original
program covers from the period, one even signed by Graham Hill.
I am not sure how much you would charge, Im open to negotiation.
I raced there in formula vee in the early 80's, and as a cosequence
have a romantic atachemnet to this circuit, particually in its
original layout as raced by the gp cars of the era.
I have web space to host the circuit and the interest in maintaining
it, but to attempt the design is way out of my league.
If any one is interested, please email me.
Many thanks
Glenn Corrigan
Step in line, I'm still waiting on the Glen *With the Boot* ;-)

make when building tracks. Some like Bathhurst are naturals, & famous
tracks from days gone by...I'm curious AND betting that most track builder's
have some connection to the tracks they build...i.e. raced there, watched
races there, had an uncle that lived there...something..
(of course this doesn't apply to fantasy track creators.)

I hope that *doesn't* come out any time soon. Reason? I've finally
started going fast on the Glen as it now is - the second GlenBoot comes
out pretty much everyone who knows the track IRL will migrate over
there...
Oh, and where the bloody hell is Oulton Park? At this rate I'll have to
build it myself, and that will *not* be a pretty sight...

I reckon you're right. After all, what was the first track I had a go
at making? Shelsley Walsh. Which is a) the nearest topline speed event
to where I live, and b) the place I watch at most. My version looks
nothing like it, though, and that's not only 'cause I had to add the
(non-existent IRL) return road... <g>

Hey guys, you highjacked my thread.
I simply asked to "buy" the track by somone who would care to build it
for me!!!!!!

Silly question of the day: The Boot, is that the right-left kink
between the esses and the loop, as we have it in N2002?

Welcome to RAS :)

Howdy ho Glenn,
How much would you pay for approx. 100 hours work by a software engineer?
That probably would be the minimum time required to accurately replicate
a "real" track ... and that's assuming you have ALL the hard data related
to overall track length, length of each straight, radius of each corner,
camber data for each straight and corner, and topographic map of track,
with resolution of at least 3 meters (hopefully better) ... in other
words, pictures are not enough.
Given all the data named above, I could produce a drivable Sandown Intl.
Raceway in about a month ... if the desire strikes me.
This might explain why a GPL Track Builder must REALLY REALLY want to
build a track.
BTW- the above estimate is based on my just-completed track, Glen71,
which portrays Watkins Glen Long Course as it was in 1971 ... WITH the
Boot and WITHOUT the Inner Loop ... see

100 hours at 6dollar an hour (at least) -> 600 dollars
not that I want to make the track (I cant), but is that wath you want to
pay ?
maybe somebody already did the job

The kink you mentioned is "The Inner Loop" ... added to slow things down
after a NASCAR driver (can't recall name now) killed himself at the end
of that straight.
"The Boot" is the extra bit of track added in 1971 ... Left immediately
after The Loop, down hill, back up, re-joining "NASCAR Straight" two
corners before S/F line ... on a track map, the addition is in the shape
of a "low-top" boot ... hence the name.

Good call Kevin ;) and:

is the url for the track editing section of the RSC forum.

events, as well as many others. The only ones I didn't car for was the
NASCAR events. all though I did make one in 1996 (I think it was 96).
So, That's enough encouragement for someone to build the damn thing. Get
going guys! ;-)

I don't think it was a NASCAR driver. I'm pretty sure it was a
Prototype event. All though I can't think of the drivers name. I do
remember the "McDonalds Loop" being placed there just because of that during
the early or mid eighties just shy of the first NASCAR event. Don't quote
me 100% though. I remember walking up to the turn shortly after the crash.
A WGI fanatic that can quote every and all historical facts about WG as
well as just about any other track and racing series told me that the
fastest "Unofficial" top speed on that strait was 244Mph and officially was
23xMph.

I think a NASCAR driver did die there and well a prototrype driver was
serverly injured. Tommy Kendall in the GTP Chevy Intrepid if my memory
serves correct on the prototype driver who got hurt there.

A chicane known as the "Inner Loop" was added in the early 1990s after the
tragic death of NASCAR Winston Cup driver J. D. McDuffie in a Turn 5
accident; this chicane was added on the right side of the back straightaway,
just before the entrance to "The Loop". It is numbered as 4 distinct turns
(Turns 5, 6, 7, and 8), although it is generally taken as two turns. When
the chicane is used, 4 is added to the turn numbers for all subsequent turns
on the course.
6 dollars an hour??? Jesus, I'm glad I don't work for Oracle!
A word of thanks to all the people who make tracks for the hell of it.
