Just started playing gpl again for the first time in two years, used to do
1:28s at monza, now I'm struggling to get 1:32.

Nah, you'll be back sub-1:30 before you know it! You never loose it :)

Wrong...hopefully :)
Give it just a few days and you will most probably be better than ever !
It has been discussed several times here that a break from GPL (ok your
break is a long one ;) will pay off with better laptimes once you get back
in action. The scientific explenation is that it is actually in the breaks
between doing something that your brain processes all the info, and that
enables you to stop doing the same old mistakes just from habit. Be patient
for some time, just enjoy the racing... and you will end up just as fast as
before and maybe even faster.

Speaking of which after a bit of setup tweaking I hit 1:30.00 last night,
didn't even try that hard (maybe thats why), hurrah !.
It was a good fealing as well :)
