Twice now my system has acted like it was dead. I've shut the system
down, gone to work and then come home....and it wouldn't start. Totally
dead...except for an led on the Asus motherboard and a light on my
keyboard(so I knew the power was still good)
I have the system setup to restart when hitting the space bar but for some
reason, when I shut it down it went into suspend mode instead of completely
off.
The first time I took it into a shop...paid for New memory and it seemed
fine. until today when it happened again. I pulled the plug for about 15
minutes and when I plugged it back in...the sucker started right up...
Any sites or newsgroups I can poke around to see if there is a reason for
this??

go here:

They have sections for many motherboards and are quite good. The direct link
to their Asus motherboard section is this:

Dave...
It sounds like you have ACPI activated as your "power saving" program.
Besides doing what you describe...it does another 5,000 bad things you don't
want. Next time you install a fresh Win98SE (if that's what you are
using)....install the APM power management module, not ACPI.
Aside from that, why do you have your power management software functional?
It really isn't necessary for a "gaming rig"....turn it off.
