Remembering Dale Earnhardt on his birthday sparks argument
John Pancoast marked Dale Earnhardt's birthday, and others paid tribute. Phillip Malphrus argued that Earnhardt routinely wrecked people to win and would be called a wrecker online, which drew strong objections and counter-examples of clean finishes and other drivers' rough moves. Malphrus was called a troll, although Pancoast defended him as a long-time sim racer.

Nope
I'm not a NASCAR fan by any definition of the word, the few times I
watched the reruns on Eurosport or checked the results on the web was to
see how Dale was doing
He was something else

In a nutshell Goy, he was what stock car racing is all about, unlike the
pretty boy/corporate version of today :)
Dale could do both sides of the fence. Guys today can't/haven't.

It's also true, EACH AND EVERY one of them
does/have done the same thing. I.,e Kurt Busch and Matt Kenseth this year
alone, and that's only what's shown on tv, and what comes to
mind/remembered. Even Jeffy has done the same, more than once. Same thing
happens a lot in the backmarkers that isn't shown on tv, because it's
following the lead cars.
I've always felt that if Dale had been marketed as something other than
what he was, his racing wouldn't have been controversial.........
And yep, he was what stock car racing is all about, at least what it used
to be about :) But having been a fan of has since 1980, I'll admit to bias

If all he did was crash people out to win races, he would not have won the

I've heard, it's a shame I didnt know that until he was gone. They knew
whenever he was on their bumper with 2 to go that they were going to be
wrecked. You can't even name one race when the above scenario was true that
he didn't wreck the other driver. If he could get to them, he would wreck
them. Just ask Terry Labonte. So, if there was someone online like that, how
would that person be treated though?

Please cut out the BS and stop disrespecting DE, that statement is not
anywhere near true. Sure some people got spun by him but others have done

how about every freaking race he finishe second in? he went 2nd at dayton
for eons and it was why his win was such a big deal.
i've been going to races since i was 3 way back in 64, dirt tracks
rockingham, myrtle beach and darlington, back in the day, old skool or
something, that was what you expected in STOCK CAR RACING. conversations
would be, he put a good one on him-- next time, he'll get him back......
and oh yeah, a few fist-fights and not just the racers either. the wives
would really get into it back on those Leland Saturday nights, hehe.
yeah, it's redneck and yeah it's a step up from rassling.
"I know it's only Round and Round but I like it!" ya'll can have all this
fabricated let's not touch aeropush prettyboy happycrappy. give me some
detroit steel (via japan, alas) and let 'em race.
so there, every freaking race he finished second, for a starter. jeez

I would like you to name a race that involved a last lap pass that was clean
and had absolutely no controversy.......
Ryan
*snipping out all the stuff that has been reposted at least 6 times*
How about Dale JarrettvsDavey Allison, Rick WilsonvsBill Elliott, Jimmy
SpencervsErnie Irvan. I am dropping it since no one came name a race other
than Daytona, where people dont like to rub anyway at those speeds.
Actually, I know another but the fact no one else does is amazing and proves
my point.

that's pretty hard to do without a NASCAR history book handy. BTW, I do
recall Earnhardt beating Mark Martin at Sears Point, so there's the race you
asked for. And, in response to your examples, Jarret vs. Allison was at
Michigan - not exactly a contact track either. Spencer vs. Irvan was at
Daytona wasn't it? I don't recall Rick Wilson vs. Elliott. Anyways, I think
this thread has gotten much too long and I'm officially done with it. I
understand you're aren't/weren't an Earnhardt fan and I don't have a problem
with that, but I just think that reducing his driving style to "wrecker" is
awfully disrespectful.
Ryan
moving or bump and run is a lot different than wrecking. Moving or Bump and
run is/was NASCAR.
Rockingham - Bobby Hamilton, Earnhardt moved him with bump and run and went
on to win the race. Bobby didn't wreck and finished 2nd I believe.
Loudon BGN - Nemechek, Earnhardt moved him, but got him a little more out of
shape than he intended. Earnhardt slowed down, waited for Joe to get
control of the car, let Joe get back in the lead before racing to the line.
Joe won.
Bristol - Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon moved him, and went on to win the race,
Rusty was 2nd I believe.

Pocono - Earnhardt, Mayfield moved Dale on the last corner and went on to
win the race. Earnhardt finished 4th.

No it doesn't. Most people don't remember who came in second at a given race
unless it was something spectacular. Like Al Unser Jr beating Scott Goodyear
at Indy(smallest margin of victory up to then). In order to answer your
question, one would first have to find a race where Dale came in second. Then
you'd have to find the details on that particular race, if they're even
AVAILABLE...
In order to answer your question to your apparent satisfaction, one would have
to have a detailed NASCAR reference handy. I don't know many people who DO...

oh yeah, I'm a troll for posting an opinion contrary to popular opinion and
I should be beaten because my opinion is different ... Nothing I've said is
a personal attack to anyone on here but I should be beaten. This is called
free speech. We are not in communist Russia ... I'm sorry it has come to a
personal insult.
Dale Earnhardt was a wonderful man who will forever be the benchmark on
which to compare stock car drivers to.
Now everyone can be happy!

To me, he's a troll who don't need a reply. He needs taken out back
behind the woodshed & busted upside his... :-)
lol, whatever. I'm a troll for having a different opinion than yours and my
post is a trollish one while yours is not.
Thanks for your time.

Joke son. See the smiley?? Don't whine. I doesn't become you. I see
your post as a troll simply because your claims were *so* outrageous &
out of the ballpark and was presented in such a way that it comes off
