Joachim Blum's 'Push the Limits' GPL video

Joachim Blum released a 218 MB GPL video called 'Push the Limits', which was praised as artistic, though some wanted more pure racing footage. Several people suffered corrupted downloads, so a RaceSimCentral mirror and a smaller 70 MB version were provided. Its demoscene music prompted a tangent about 64k demos.

Awesome!, And bonus points for using "Kebby's" music, cant remember which one of the demoscene demos I remember that one from (Aardbei?, Farb-Rausch?) - do you know know where I can get the .sid file for that track? even the track name would help, thx. Hi Crash, Nice special effects. Too bad it doesn't include some really pure competition shots...which is what GPL is all about (for me, at least). --Steve "Joachim Blum" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aatomu$b9c$07$[email hidden]...

N/m - I remembered, It's Farb-Rausch's awesome FR-08 'The Product" If anyone hasn't seen it, then it contrast to Joachim's 200+ Mb file, take a look at what demoscene coders can pack into 64k (all graphics, music & effects are packed into one small 64k exe) http://theproduct.de/fr08_final.zip Trust me, it may be OT and nothing to do with racing, but it's worth it :) Vennt. Damn, and I thought that with the advent of 3d cards the DemoScene went out of existence. I still remember some good demos from the 90s... And music by PURPLE MOTION... Ohhh, the music! :) Is this guy still alive and well? And the NAID DemoCompo in montreal, first and only one in north america that I heard of. Nothing compared to what you Euro-Freaks could do, but a lot of fun anyway. T'was in 1994, SVGA all the way, with scrollers and stuff.. There was that Omnicron demo wich was a display of visual oddities (Moebius Stripes and ESCHEResque stuff like that)...What a feast.!! Nah, if anything the advent of 3D cards 'split' the demoscene into 2 distinct camps, Those that still use the limitations of 64k or even 4k file sizes, and those that create bloatware demos using DirectX, Vertex/Pixel Shaders and more. I personally prefer the smaller stuff to the multimegabyte demos, shows alot more skill. Get up to date & your demoscene fixes at http://www.scene.org My own recommendation are: Heaven7, anything by Aardbei (even if you get nothing else, get "Please The Cookie Thing"), 3state & the godly Farb-Rausch. this is incredible! i had no idea such stuff could go into small packages. thanx for the links. rob
Okey, I've given it 2 attempts now - both resulting in corrupted zip-files. I give up... next time make the video smaller or use something other than winzip to pack it. -- ed_ "Joachim Blum" <[email hidden]> skrev i melding news:aatomu$b9c$07$[email hidden]... > Hi all! > > My new GPL video is available for download. Ed, don't give up. I got it on the third try and it is worth the effort. There is a mirror site up as well. My pleasure, was not sure whether to post or not, very OT for RAS, however I thought it made an amusing counterpoint to Joachim's 200Mb monster, to see an alomost equal length animation / graphics and music at 64k :) that and the fact that Just about the only people who I know who have heard any of Timmo's music (Joachims video's soundtrack) are also fans of the demoscene, or the old C64 SID music composers. There's really no point in zipping it at all. DIVX files are already very, very dense. Zip at max only takes 3% off, and greatly increases the problems of corruption (which btw, I have had in both attempts to d/l this movie).
Thanks to all for the comments. I've just put a smaller (in size) version of the video online, available through the same website: http://www.joachimblum.de/pushthelimits.htm It's 320x190 pixel, ~70 MB. The big one is still available from the Racesimcentral mirror. Thanks to the admins for hosting it! (I only have 300 MB webspace so I can't host both versions. I'm looking for more webspace, though...). I didn't zip it this time for the reasons already said in this thread. I hope that now everyone will be able to download/watch the video. Sorry to all of you who had problems with it :(. Best regards Crash

I don't see a link for the new file yet... Anyway, turns out my ISP has finally come to its senses and raised the download speed limit, so I'm downloading the 200MB version right now. >I didn't zip it this time for the reasons already said in this thread.
