RASCAR Chicagoland results and real names online

Ed Solheim posted RASCAR results from Chicagoland, and newcomers were told how to join, with John Simmons explaining the roster and car-number rules. The discussion moved to whether drivers should race under real names rather than 'l33t' handles, with some valuing accountability and others citing a real online stalking case as a reason for caution.

Pat, anyone who reads RAS can join the RASCAR races. Look out for track notification during the week and join the races on Saturday. Password ras. Actually the RASCAR forum is located at RSC here: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=142 Cheers Phil -- Racesim Central Administrator http://www.racesimcentral.com
It's all in where he puts the numbers... Pat, visit the roster page here: http://www.paddedwall.org/rascar Decide on your car number and check to make sure that the car pic that goes with your desired car# says "AVAILABLE". The only things we ask regarding cars are: 1) The car number in your car file and the car number that's painted on the car match each other. 2) At a minimum, car numbers be placed on the doors and on the right- side tail light or bumper. 3) If you want to use a car file that came with the game, copy the car file to a different file name, and change the driver name to your name. If you don't have a car painted, you may pick and choose from the ones on this page: http://www.paddedwall.org/nr2002cars I will gladly change the car numbers on any car selected there as I have already done for a number of guys driving in RASCAR. When you deocide on a number, post the following info here: Name Sierra ID Car # Country In article <ablhug$s9$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] says...

so, do how do you guys handle a variation of the person's actual name? the stalker thing is real and even at work they say,,,,, never give out yr full name to customers, give them yr name and your agent sign if they need it..... i work for an airline..... maybe it's just safety first on their part but maybe there's a bit of truth..... i know with my handle if someone wanted to stalk, they could.... i just want them to at least have to go thru a few more clicks than just giving it to them. who am i kidding? i have nothing to be ruined..... maybe i'll be brave like you guys rob beasley -- Always walk around with a big smile on your face and keep one hand down your pants. --Grandpa Erwin "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > In article <[email hidden]>, Uwe Schuerkamp > <[email hidden]> writes: > > >Quite frankly I don't like all those nascar weenies hiding > >behind l33t haX0r names online, same goes for VROC. Well, since I've never been the victim of a stalker, I guess I don't worry about it as much as some do. I won't post the gritty details because you possibly wouldn't sleep for a week, but my friend made a rather unstable 'enemy' in an online gaming 'community', it got messy & the authorities got involved. Since that incident I guess my own perception of the safety of 'anonimity on the net' changed, but the change was enough for me to use a nickname mainly online, where before I used my real name. Well, my address is already all over the place, you can find my halfway exact enough coordinates on my web page or in my sig, so a phone book search later you'd have my real name, my home address, whatever. Call me naive, but I've been on the internet since 1990, and I recall it being a friendly place back in those days (heck, most unix boxes had open "guest" accounts back then!). All those "net" problems tend to be problems of real people using the net, just like real people using the public roads and causing all sorts of problems. In racing, I have nothing to hide, and I guess that goes for most of my fellow racers out there, too. Or maybe not! I expect it was already used. In the end I used the slightly silly 'Scuderia Smitty'. I was guarenteed that no one would use that :-) Matt

No problem, I'll get it renamed and uploaded by tomorrow. That's a cool carset by the way, I had to have it. Gary

That's actually something I worry about as I used to always use my full name when I posted to newsgroups. I haven't had any problems yet in the six years I've ben doing this stuff. Needless to say, all my newsgroup posts just have my first name in the header now. Gary

I made a couple of posts posing as Greg Biffle to this newsgroup one night when I'd too much to drink. That was right after the RASCAR Bristol race, and I was venting my frustrations because I was involved in an accident after a restart. I've done a couple of RASCAR races, and I learned I don't belong on short tracks. Anyways, getting back to the original subject, I guess I just can't stand not knowing what the hell my user ID and password are. This way I always know my ID at least. I got sick of all the post-it notes on my monitor. See ya' at the track! Gary
