http://ps3.ign.com/articles/702/702300p1.html Ridge Racer 7 Set for PS3 Online, and faster than ever! First details inside. by IGN Staff April 19, 2006 Not that this wasn't expected or anything, but Namco Bandai Games will be continuing the tradition of Ridge Racer and PlayStation. The latest issue of Famitsu has the scoop on Ridge Racer 7, which is being developed as a banner title for PS3. Famitsu scored an interview with the main talent behind RR7. Masaya Kobayashi is serving as director, with Hideo Teramoto taking on the role of assistant producer. Serving as sound director is Hiroshi Okubo. These three also worked on the PSP and Xbox 360 RR games. Kobayasha, while not directly confirming a release at the PS3's launch in November, stated that the development staff's goal is to, as quickly as possible, convey to players the concept behind the PS3 hardware. Teramoto personally believes this concept to be "machine power," exemplified by the PS3's ability to deliver movie-quality visuals and sound. As another concept for the PS3, Teramoto mentioned the system's network connectivity, hinting that Sony has indeed gotten its Online act in gear for the PS3. The three developers didn't get too specific about what we can expect from RR7. Teramoto stated that thanks to the PS3's power, even with improved graphics, the system has juice to spare, which will be used for effects to help deliver a better feeling of speed and arcade-thrills. Teramoto let slip that the game will use Nitros, a system that was recently featured in the PSP and Xbox 360 games. Okubo addressed the game's sound component briefly by revealing that the game will support 5.1 sound. Online support seems like it will exceed that of Ridge Racer 6. Namco is aiming for support up to 14 players Online at once. This is the same number as that of RR6, but Kobayashi believes that adding more players would be unnecessary. The team is planning on new Online play options that take the game beyond mere competitive play, with Teramoto revealing that something akin to cooperative play will make it into the game. Players will be able to customize their cars and show them off Online, Kobayashi added. The game will have a massive set of options, with what appears to be at least 200,000 car possibilities. Ridge Racer 7 will have a strong Offline component as well, of course. The main mode of play will offer more than 160 races. In addition, Namco is working time attack and single race modes into the title. And, the biggest news of all! Reiko Nagase is back as spokesgirl! Famitsu hints that the world's easiest race queen will have a slightly older look this time around. Finishing off Famitsu's early glimpse at Ridge Racer 7, Kobayashi promised a title that would make PS3 owners glad that they purcahsed the system. Ridge Racer 7 will make an appearance at E3 in a couple of weeks. While it's unclear if the title will be playable, we can at the very least expect a first look via a trailer clip called Ridge Racer Vision 2010. __________________________ http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php?id=137776 RIDGE RACER 7 ROARS ONTO PS3 Playable at E3, with 14 player online mode revealed - blimey that came up in our rear view mirror a bit quickly 10:02 Namco is working on a new version of long-standing power-sliding favourite Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3, according to the latest word from out East. According to our old friends at respected Japanese publication Famitsu, work on Ridge Racer 7 is already well underway and, surprisingly, it's set to make its playable debut at this year's E3. The latest word is that Ridge Racer 7 is being developed by series producer and PSP vet, Hideo Teramoto, and it's being directed by Masaya Kobayashi with sound duties being performed by Hiroshi Okubuo. Not too many further details to report, other than the intriguing news that Ridge Racer 7 will roar online with up to fourteen players on the PS3, so severe multiplayer action is certainly in prospect. Once again, trademark Ridge Racer virtual icon and racing queen Reiko Nagase (pictured) will be fronting the racing franchise, which can be no bad thing. With E3 roaring ever closer, like an Artic bearing down on an unsuspecting hedgehog, we'll be hoping to bring you first impressions of Ridge Racer 7 in action, live and direct from the E3 show floor. ____________________________ http://gaming-age.com/news/2006/4/19-38 What would a PlayStation platform launch be without a Ridge Racer title? Well, Namco is apparently sticking to their tradition and via the latest Weekly Famitsu magazine, has announced Ridge Racer 7 for the PlayStation 3. The game will be on display at the E3, feature 14 player online racing action, and is expected to be a PS3 launch title. Whether or not it is just going to be an enhanced port of some sort of the Xbox 360's Ridge Racer 6 is unknown at this time. The E3 should provide a little more insight. _________________________________ http://psp.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=2800 Ridge Racer 7 Announced April 19, 2006 by: Matt Furtado Namco announces Ridger Racer 7 for the PS3. They can have it and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. RR6 was horrible after you got a 1/3 of the way thru the game. It's the lamest weakest racer I have played in years. Online was even worst. The game has become the laughing stock of racers.

What console was that on?? I played RR on PSP, and i liked it, for an arcade racer. Still waiting for that friggen GT Mobile... i'll be waiting forever i know. In one of those scans it shows the 'World HUB'.... wonder if this is the final name for Sony's online service?? Right next to that... it mentions 'real unreality'.... what's that supposed to mean. LOL.

I hope RR7 is much improved over RR6 on Xbox 360. some years ago, it was announced that a new Ridge Racer was coming for PS2. This was AFTER Namco's shitty PS2 'R: Racing Evolution' That then-new PS2 Ridge Racer game, which never came out, was meant to have the original Ridge Racer (maybe arcade ver, or maybe PS1 ver) as a downloadable content, possibly with updated graphics. here's the quote from IGN: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/463/463539p1.html __________________________________________________________________ "Ridge Racer The Sixth We know for a fact that Namco is working on the next Ridge Racer, though it's probably not titled Ridge Racer 6. Rather, it's probably entitled something much smarter, much slicker. R: Racing Evolution was a side-step for the company, an off-shoot that neither garnered much interest nor sales. We've learned that Namco is considering using the HDD for various purposes (including enabling players to download the first Ridge Racer to the PS2 with updated graphics), and that the game will return to the arcade-style mechanics it's so well known for, including bringing back the pressure sensitive control from the latter games, such as Ridge Racer 5." _____________________________________________________________ okay, did that never-seen Ridge Racer game for PS2 become Ridge Racers for PSP, or RR6 for Xbox 360? or, has it been reworked into RR7 for PS3 ? time may tell.

The 360. The graphics were solid and frame rate silky smooth 60. The game turned to crapola rapidly though. They kept using the same tired races over and over and over with the only difference being the class of car yo uused. Once you unlock the faster cars you had to go to different circuits using the original cars all over again on the same tired tracks. Not to mention the luck at all cost AI to complete the game against the fastest cars. It didn't matter how good of a racers you were or how fast you took the laps, it was pure luck of the last turn if you won or not. It was horrible. Online all players did was powerslide constantly (even on straight aways) to built up the nitro to win. It was so pathetic I felt like I was losing my mind after a couple hours of playing it. You mostly played Japanese racers. The game didn't do well in the U.S.

I will take a major wait and see attitude with the next racer from Namco. RR6 turned me off for life. RR7 would have to have stellar reviews across the board before it gets my coin.

RR6 is too similar to the PSP game. it sold by the shedload in japan, on both formats, so i can't see namco making any drastic changes to the formula for the PS3 one, i can see it being pretty similar to RR6. -- gamertag: Chrisflynnuk http://live.xbox.com/member/Chrisflynnuk

People discover a winning tactic and then constantly exploit it which means the game becomes extremely dull. kinda sounds exactly like the PSP version. Maybe it was a port? or rather a remake! By the end of the game you needed to be perfect, and memorize the tracks at every turn. Which, i think is why they make you race the same 'tired' tracks over and over. LOL. I found it fun and challenging.
