Great game, great result, fantastic performances from all concerned. It's a good thing the English make up for in spirit and determination, what it, perhaps, lacks in quality. But why do we only pull out all the stops when Argentina, Germany or Holland are the opposition ? We had Sweden on the rack the other day and completely lost the plot. Today we were well organized, threatening in attack and resolute in defence. Even for those final 30 minutes of Argie pressure, we didn't look too panic stricken . Seaman finally got back to his very best and snuffed out all the dangerous crosses. Ferdinand was awe inspiring. Campbell was less so, but still very good. All I want to know is why we save these tremendous performances for the major opposition. Who can see England falling at the final qualification hurdle (Nigeria) ? Let's hope this is the boost that starts the ball rolling to a World Cup final.

The USA also beat england 1 - 0 in the first World Cup after the 2nd World war... Stranger things have happened! Mind you, the last time England beat Argentina was in 1966 :o) cheers John

I have no idea why the rest of my firm supported Argentina (I'm German ;-), but this was one fascinating and emotional match. Kudos to Becks for keeping it cool all through, and the rest of your side for beating the Argies. Should you come through to play Germany, you can guess who I'll be rooting for: England (too bad the scottish did not make it though). Good job! Being a true Brit an' all... With Portugal, France and Argentina looking at increasingly difficult group matches to just get through to the next phase of the tournament, I think we stand a great chance of getting to the semis at least. That is if any of our strikers actually score any goals :-)

I had to tape that game because it came on in the middle of the night in Canada and i'm glad i did. I thought Owen played great and i got my fingers crossed for England to go all the way i just wish Canada would get it's arse in gear and start playing soccer the way we play hockey. Steve! Surely the schools in Michigan would have taught about the sucessionist movement that burned in Texas?
