I've been tweaking F1-2002 tonight (just picked it up). I didn't have high hopes for my old 1Ghz box. I've tried every video card out there up to the latest 128MB flavors but all of them went back to Best Buy except my Ti-200. Most bang for the buck for me. I got F1-2002 to average 36-40fps with other cars on the track and full player car detail at 1280x1024 :) The physics in this game ROCK. Subtle little things I feel through force feedback and see from the cockpit definitely make this title a winner IMHO. I tried GP4 and it doesn't even come close. The only thing I liked about that was when a tire or a wing came off it was an object you needed to avoid - you couldn't just drive through them. Anyways I deleted that one. I figured out how to lose the arms. Commented out those lines in the f1car.gen file. So far the only arms I've liked were in Rally Trophy. I wish I could get timing like with GPxPatch on my screen... This is the first title I've been into for a long while. Looks to be a lot of fun! - David Cook
Don't forget to use the high physics rate. Half Rate="0" // 0 = super-high physics rate, 1 = normal Also, you can hit objects now in F12002. David G Fisher "David L. I know you found it, but in case someone else reads this and wants to turn it on too, the physics setting is in your plr file. Forgot to mention that in my other post. "David L. Cook" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:xRyO8.2977$[email hidden]...

David, I've got a similar sepc system, Celeron 900 overclocked to 1.2 GHz and GeForce 4400Ti. What settings did you come up with? And is there an in game FPS counter, I've just been using Fraps. Press Ctrl-F and wait a couple of second for it to appear in the top right hand corner. Phil --- Racesim Central Administrator http://www.racesimcentral.com

With the new cusom car set http://www.emacf1.com/rh/2002/f12002.htm from Ralph Hummerich I'm not seeing 40's (fps) anymore but I am always in the mid to high 30's. System: OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600 System Manufacturer Dell Computer Corporation Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 GenuineIntel ~996 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp. A10, 9/17/2001 Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB Video Card Name NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 INF File 6.13.10.2832 Sound Device Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) First off in the Vehicles folder I edited f1car.gen and commented out the drivers arms: // Instance=ARMS // { // Moveable=True //<SPIN> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False(100.0) //<LOW> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False(10.0) //<MED> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False(12.0) //<HIGH> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False(15.0) //<MAX> MeshFile=<1234>tcarmsa.MTS CollTarget=False(20.0) // AnimFile=catsteer.ANM // } Secondly I had to set my desktop color depth to 16-bit (is there a way around this?) in order to select 1280x1024x16 in 3D Setup. Below are my display settings in the game: Circuit Detail High Player Vehicle Detail Full Vehicle Lighting Effects High Shadows Medium Other Vehicles Detail Medium Image Quality High Special Effects Medium Pit Crew Animations High Default View Cockpit Mirrors On Movies Off Message Center Off Heads Up Display Off Broadcast Overlays Off Speed Indicator MPH (heh, as if this has any effect) About my video card drivers - initially I had the latest NVidia 2942 WHQL drivers but F1-2002 was crashing on me so I re-installed the 2832 WHQL drivers and did not make any changes to the default settings. No more lock ups. Hope this stuff helps! - David Cook
I just achieved 40+fps at 1600x1200x16 and increased the values below to Full Circuit Detail and Full Image Quality! I didn't realize that Vertical Sync is on by default. Turn that thing OFF. I got 10+ fps by doing that. Can't do FSAA on my card though. Even at 1024x768x16 with Quincunx Aliasing my fps drops into the low 30's and sometimes 20's... - David Cook > System: > > OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition > Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600 > System Manufacturer Dell Computer Corporation > Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 GenuineIntel ~996Mhz

I have turned Vsync off in my GF2 properties in Windows. Is there any other place where I also should turn it off? I'm having kinda crappy framerates, with most details off I still get around 20fps during the race.. P3 866mhz, 256mb, GF2 GTS, 12.41 drivers Andre

That's it - but make sure you are using 16-bit color in 3D Setup...

I have - is my 20fps normal for my system? Andre
Depending on the track, I am getting anywhere from around 20 to the mid 30's at 1024x768x16 with a 950 mhz Celeron, 256 meg of RAM, and a 32 meg DDR Radeon. Since a GF2 should be faster than a Radeon in 16 bit color I think you should be seeing higher speeds than that. "Andre Warringa" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

1/2 rate = 200hz game engine Full rate = 400hz game engine It just seems more responsive :) -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> "Joe62" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Sat, 15 Jun 2002 03:41:32 GMT, "David G Fisher" > <[email hidden]> wrote: > > >Don't forget to use the high physics rate. > >Half Rate="0" // 0 = super-high physics rate, 1 = normal > > Can you please explain what the difference is?

Try steering with locked front wheels with the 200 hz setting. The wheels won't turn. They will with the 400 hz setting. Remco

Compared to other recent F1 titles, the multiplayer is great. Compared to GPL or Nascar 2002 is SUCKS!!.. You need a commercial line for the server and you need broadband at home... Otherwise you are limited to 3 or 4 cars before the whole thing starts lagging alllllll over. dave henrie
