WSC - give me facts!

World Sports Cars: vapourware or alive?

Andreas Nystrom asked for real facts about the long-delayed World Sports Cars from the West brothers. Douglas Ellison insisted it was alive and moving to DirectX 9 but said legal issues stopped him saying more, while others called it vapourware, and David Powell blamed publisher Empire. The thread later drifted into credit card offers.

I cant belelive how all people go talking about WSC all the time. This is one of the few games that have promised LOT more then it has delivered. All what we know about the game is just pr-talk from the west brothers, and all we have seen is a rolling demo of some sportscars running around a track. It will be the best carsimulation ever... why? cause the west says so.. ok.. then i must think that too then? Can we have some facts instead?, who has tested this game? how much did the game really delivered then? how about physics?.. did you test different types of cars? how about sound?. And they complain about the physicsmodel in other games, and say "WSC is much better then that game on tires, suspension, aero" ok.. but how do you know that? "cause i talked to West about it" ok.. valid point there. So therefore, i ask everyone here who have actually tested the product to make a review of it. I know some guy tested it.. so come on.

WHY!!?!?!? Its already been delayed once for Voodoo glide to dx8 :( I dont care about it being DX9 or not, no card out yet supports it anyway. *sigh* It looks good enough anyway, even in Glide for me to want it, just the physics I care about.. i guess they have implented lots of new features since the first releasedate 2years back then. Well the Wests are still actively working on it, that much I do know. On the other hand, time has progressed and F1-2002 seems a serious difficult target to beat, at present. Ruud van Gaal Free car sim: http://www.racer.nl/ Pencil art : http://www.marketgraph.nl/gallery/

Forget about it, the thing is vaporware. It ain't never going to be released and was just one big joke intending to fool those who could be fooled. :) Alanb
Something to do with Empire the fact they dont like WSC as its to complex, and to small'a market (GPL), so wests are as far as i know trying to get Empire of there back with TIR, (which isnt WSC), hopefully then they can go solo again and develope and release WSC on there own, the delays have all occured due to publishing rights and signing the wrong the deal...I believe... From recent grapevine news I feel we will see WSC in its full glory, but not for a while, by which time DX9 will be the norm id imagine... As for why i feel WSC will be the be all and end all, we had the pleasure of Chris West at the LAN in Holland a year or so back, very interesting talking at length... Define "Alive & Well" - While I don't doubt Chris & Tony are still working on their magnum opus my fears are that it is in "Development Hell" - a constant battle to both finish the sim *and* keep it inline with current/future tech - usually a sign that the title will never see light of day or live up to expectations. Also what is the status of the relationship with Empire?, how does that relationship, or conversely a lack of relationship affect licensing issues, which are usually 'taken care of' by the publisher (i.e. paid for), how has licensing with TIR affected WSC? All rhetorical questions, BTW, but they make my point, while the Wests may be continuing to develop that is not the be-all and end-all of game production, their 'forced' lack of communication only leaves doubts & questions in those that were (are?) interested in WSC's fate. Alan.

David... That "post" was a tongue-in-cheek joke.....germane to the string it was in well over a year ago. I did meet with both Chris and Tony at E3...and I did see WSC running on a system they had setup. That's all. I also met with them on and off for almost a week......in London around the middle of June-2001 (a year ago). I obviously can not reveal publicly the details of those meetings as it would be completely unfair to Chris and Tony to do so. And, "yes"....I would like to.....it would add a lot of useful "clarification" of things for this string and many others related to WSC over the past several months (year). But I will not. I can tell you my personal opinion and thoughts about the nature and character of Chris and Tony West....and their project commitment. I immediately liked both of them from the first day I met them. They were full of enthusiasm and are hard working people. They are dedicated to their WSC project.....I have no doubts whatsoever about that....it is there "baby" and they will see it through to completion. They are also two very talented and creative people.....and an absolute blast to hang out with (which we did for a day up at Silverstone for an F1 test day). At their core....they are die-hard racing fans and both good sim racers too. I also think both of them are very honest, sincere and straightforward shooters.....I would trust them with anything. This is only my personal views on Chris and Tony.....for whatever that's worth to some of you. Regards, Tom "David L. Cook" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aenhs3$k08$[email hidden]...

Yes. i guess Empire are the evil ones :( I mean, the only thing they care about seems to be Virtua Tennis, Sega Rally2, and Segas "Crazy taxi" for PC :( where is the world going?. I love the video of WSC where the car drives around the testtrack, and you can see how well the suspension-model works!. Im so impressed by it. It seems like the car really have some wheight!. I wonder if that "track" will be left in the retail?, i hope so :) I will probably not get a DX9 card until about 2years. Yes, im still waiting for the game. I will get it first of all, if it gets released!. It has the cars that i really care about, the old Sportscars from the 80ies and 90ies. I couldnt care less about Audi R8s etc. Not to mention that its suspension seems to work really good too. Its just that you get tired of hearing "legal reasons" all the time. :) I hope some simdevelopers goes to some rich guy that only cares about racingcars, like Panoz.. maybe west could ask him for some money to get the best sportscar simulation out? :) "Douglas Ellison" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aenh2l$8l66j$[email hidden]...

I too was very impressed by the suspension model. I am not too impressed by your blatant disregard for one of my favourite tracks in the world ('testtrack' indeed :-).

Just imagine what would happen here if it was finally released and it turned out to be another arcader pile of doo doo with crappy physics etc. And a horrible frame rate on a 2gig CPU with tripple Gforce 10 500 meg video cards. I wonder if that is the real delay. They can't get it to run well on todays CPU's etc Nigel(Ducking for cover behind my Eagle in GPL, best sim since WSC dreamware from twilight zone) Cya --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. They can't legally release the game yet, but they've printed a manual? =) Jason
Just because something is written to use DX9 dosnt mean you have to have a DX9 card, DX9 is a progression from DX8. It just makes sense to code for the latest version as each version of DX is optimised over the previous. Yeah thats absolutely right, you'll not need a "DX9" card to run DX9 - in the same way you dont need a DX8 card to run DX8. It has just extra features whicih should be exploited if people have the cards. All the best, Ash

Yes it does, if I have to buy a new computer/video card every year. I can't afford to upgrade right now, so I'll have to start letting these games pass me by. Of course by the time WSC comes out in 2005, I might be able to afford a new system for it... He's talking 'bout an earlier video with featuring a track actually designed to test suspension, featuring a washboard, a speed bump and a couple raised strips. Quite impressive to see the car (no bodywork) "working" over those. Jan. =---

Hehe. Haven't we all, Eldred :) I had a $250,000 spine operation in 1994 (well, several, actually) and I _still_ haven't recovered from the deductables, the "We pay the going rate, you pay the difference" letters from the Insurance company, and lost work time. I'm going to be paying off "Living Expenses" for the next 10 years... Oh, well. That's life :) -Larry "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

You know, it seems that the fuller they get, the more new one's that come in the mail! I only have two now. Citibank hits on me about 7 times a month. Not nearly as bad as Community Bank, who wants my mortgage. I get no less than 12-15 solicitations a month from them. It's borderline comical. -Larry "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

No, that's not life, that's obscene. The great irony is the extra hours of work you will have to put in to pay for said operation will financially cripple you, probably give you a back injury from stress, over-stretching or other over work and destroy the life that you would have had.
