Guys, Wots goings on???? 4 hours in and I'm very dissapointed in Geoffs latest F12002 has kept me up on some late nighters (excellent game) runs like Schumi at Monza! GP4 looks nice cranked up, but it's a picture not a movie! hotlap on my own PO drops to a respectable 75-80% Have race and bang sllloooooowwwww mmmmoooooo takes over... Any got a definative solution? Also my MOMO causes menu jumping, complete pain in th rear... I was looking forward to Geoffs new baby, but at the moment the CD rack is looming large.. If the stupid box they sold it in would take it.. Oh yes and I got the pamphlet but wheres the manual!!!!!! A GP1,2,3 veteran sits very dissappointed in Portsmouth, thinking EA has stolen his crown! Come Geoff, jokes over, send out the patch...

Sure you've updated your soundcard drivers ? If GP4 mixes the sound in software instead of hardware this could give a huge performance hit. Check this out by setting the bottom slider, which adjusts the sound reproduction quality, to minimum quality in this dialog box : In windows 98/Me look at Control Panel->Multimedia->Advanced Properties->Performance In windows 2000/XP look at Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->(Speaker Settings) Advanced->Performance
ok Found out that my SB 5.1 Live with 3D Hardware accelarated si slowing down Gp4 big time If I move the two sliders in the control panel to the left, the sound is naff but GP4 run OK in any res.. 27-30fps If I put up even one nodge on the soundcard hardware accelaration or sound quality, bang goes my perfomance... Any ideas..?? Latest drivers are installed. Sound isn't brillant at the best of times but with it on it's lowest setting it is god awful I want to like this game!!! Upgrading the drivers on my Soundblaster 64 PCI solved the problem for me, had never bothered to upgrade from the standard drivers from the XP installation. Make sure that the choices for hardware accelaration in the audio menu in GP4 are checked. Before I upgraded my drivers it was still possible to check these boxes, but when returning to this menu the program had unchecked them again. Meaning that the game didn't recognize any hardware accelaration in the card. This again is possibly a driver problem either that the drivers don't implement the hardware acceleration functionality in the card, or that there is some inconsistency between the drivers and the game. Also try to recalibrate the sound if you install some new drivers.

It's the first time I encounter this problem in a game where changing the sound drivers had such a effect on game performance. I've just tried a few games after upgrading the SB drivers and it seems like perhaps GTA3 and F1 2002 runs a bit smoother with the new drivers, but I haven't measured this fully with a tool like fraps so I can't say it for sure.
