RASCAR Sears Point race recap

EldredP and Joachim Trensz quit the RASCAR Sears Point race because of large speed differences, Trensz to avoid causing accidents among slower cars. Several drivers lost gears or transmissions with the fixed setup. John Simmons gave rules for safely letting faster cars by on road courses.

Sheesh - I'm struggling to put 2 laps together. I run a 1:32 something in practice - the next car up runs a 1:28 something. I'm 4 seconds slower than the next car! Ed runs a 1:22, but doesn't think he's fast enough to race, so he quit. Then Achim runs a 1:18!!! After seeing that, *I* bail - it won't be any fun getting lapped 15 times(or more) in a 45 lap race. I hope you guys enjoy the race... Eldred -- Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience... My transmission failed after just eight laps or so. Very strange. First time I've *ever* had a transmission failure. Looked like a good race was going on between Fredrickson, John and Ginger. Next week is Daytona which should be competitive and a lot of fun. David G Fisher "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:af2nce$amqrd$[email hidden]...

Dang....missed Sears today, WG was a mess and I'll be away on vacation next weekend, that's 3 out of the 4 tracks I was planning to make sure I didn't miss, the 4th was Dega of course and we all know how that went :-) Road Courses and SS's.....anyone see anything wrong with this picture ? :-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--

Eldred, HALF the field was 6 laps or more down. You should not have left! I lost second gear around lap 19, for no particular reason I can think of. It all went to hell from there. That screwed up my braking points, shifting points, turning points, drifts, and overall threw my brain into a complete tail spin. It was like I was at a totally different track that I didn't just spend practicing for over 20 hours preparing for this race :( Then I got a little damage when someone spun in front of me (no biggie), and the car just turned into a total little bitch from that point on. Now, I was fighting a evil car, and an evil track, that totally changed on me because of the loss of 2nd gear. I came out 7th, and I'm damned glad to have it :) Luckily, I was fortunate and did a pretty darned good job of staying out of everyone's way and letting them by. But I never quit, and got a 7th place out of it :) No matter HOW bad it is, never quit! I did have to park it on the white-flag lap because Mr. Evil Car went squirelly on me and I caught tire barrier and took out the motor. Frankly, I'm happy :) Until the gear thing, I was running a really nice race, no off-courses, no incidents, no trouble. In fact, I didn't even have any off-courses until much further on when I got that damage, and the car handling went totally away. Thank god it's back to oval's next week! NICE WIN JOE! -Larry "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Sheesh - I'm struggling to put 2 laps together. Actually, it turned out being a very well behaved race, and there were speed differences FAR more than there was during qualifying. -Larry "Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:af2nce$amqrd$[email hidden]...

It *was* a good race, although I thought I was ultimately the faster car because I had no trouble keeping up or even catching them after I made a minor error in turn 10. I had been in the lead for a few laps when my tranny lost 2nd gear as I came out of turn 11 at the end of lap 18. What a pain in the ass to drive that track wihtout a 2nd gear... I ended up 2nd but honestly felt that I could have won if my tranny had held together. -- ========================================================= DeMONS/1 for Nascar Racing 3 & Nascar Legends http://www.paddedwall.org/demons DeMONS/2 for Nascar Racing 4 and 2002 Season (in development) http://www.paddedwall.org/demons2 RASCAR Roster http://www.paddedwall.org/rascar Redneck Techno-Biker & "programming deity" http://www.paddedwall.org/john Barbarian Diecast Collector (460+ cars and counting) http://www.paddedwall.org/diecast If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

I think it takes a lot more skill to be faster than everyone else and be able to handle it well. You should have stayed so we could all see if you could pass safely (yet with apparent abandon). In article <af2nce$amqrd$[email hidden]>, [email hidden] says...

I've always found Papy's default <fast> setup to be _very_ prone to mechanical failure at Sears. Using my own the car is much less fragile. I can't explain why, but that's how it is. I never doubted that it would be a well behaved race. But the speed diff was really difficult to handle even in practice. It's not that I'm not used to it in a way, but still, I think it was the right decision to leave. Just look at Eldred's reaction - that was exactly what I wanted to avoid by leaving. I feel like an idiot. I forgot to start my Game Commander for this race. I crashed after the chute, when I went to press the f3 key to check my fuel. I went right into the end of a guardrail/haybale. I was in 7th and catching 2-3 cars ahead of me. BTW, apologies to Joon Li (I think that's the name) I squeezed under you at the hairpin, I think I forced you off, but I can't tell without seeing the replay. I thought it was a legit pass. Someone said after 50 laps or so, you'll get a feel for the track. They were right. I got better, and took about 5 seconds off my previous best. Achim,Eldred, and Ed should've stayed. Despite a wierd start (I qualled 6th, guy in front of me stopped on the track at the start and I half-spun him, losing myself and everyone behind me several places), it was a good race. Ran a 17-lap race earlier and lost 3rd gear, so I was very happy to finish in 4th with no damage! Don't know what happened to Jan, we had some good racing earlier but he was faster than me and took off into the distance, all of a sudden I passed him going very slow, didn't look like he had damage. Apologies to the guy I punted during the race, all my fault. -Phasor "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Sheesh - I'm struggling to put 2 laps together. I seriously doubt that it was your fault. I (joon li) just couldn't get the hang of the track. Thought maybe I would improve after the practice session cause I ran a lap 2 sec faster than my best. First lap or two I went into a wall, bent my hood up. The whole race was a struggle to stay on the track. Finished six laps down, and felt grateful for that.... I stopped at the places where there were a patch of asphalt outside the white or yellow line, or drove slow in the hairpin. Worked fine. On a track like this, where the field is spread out by at least 10 seconds, noone caught me up while I was stopping and letting a couple cars by. /Carl "jon" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:AZnR8.24491$[email hidden]...

Make it obvious what you're going to do before you do it. Don't surprise the faster driver by doing something completely unexpected. Here are the rules I follow in that situation (no matter what track I'm at). 1) If you're way off the pace or know you're close to going (or have already gone) a lap down, turn on your F2 display and hit the space bar so you can see running intervals between you and the cars behind you. This display also shows you the cars immediately in front of and behind you, including their current running order. A) Cars that are on the same lap as you show up as white text, and it's usually okay to race with them. B) Cars that one or more laps ahead of you show up as RED, so stay out of their way. If you see a bunch of red cars BEHIND you with intervals that are getting smaller, be prepared to allow them to pass you at some point. C) Cars that are a lap or more behind you show up as green. D) You show up as yellow text right in the middle of the display. 2) Do not slow suddenly while still in the preferred driving line. Maintain control of your car and slow in an appropriate place. 3) It's not just up to you to allow a faster car to pass safely, it's MORE important that the faster car executes the pass safely. If the driver is too impatient, he'll push the issue and end up wrecking both of you. Make sure it's his fault and not yours. 4) Be ready to allow more than one car to pass you. Many times, leaders are in packs of cars, and they all are racing for position while trying to lap you at the same time. Don't screw the next guy because you think one is enough. You're already a lap down, so letting the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place car is probably NOT going to hurt your race any more than it already is. 5) Use your head and be courteous. If there's any doubt who was at fault, save your replay. If you screw up, be nice and apologize once after the race. If the guy you wrecked continues to be an asshole about it, return the favor (in chat, not on the track). Like I said, I couldn't even put 2 clean laps together. That would NOT have been fun... If it had been for points, I would have at least attempted it. Since it wasn't, it would have been a waste of time. Eldred -- Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience... Oddly, 2nd didn't go away when I was using it. It decided to check out on the Front Straight... It was fine coming out of turn 11. It just decided to go away in turn 3, or whatever the hell that first right-hander is after the little snake after the front straight. And I tend to lift a bit when upshifting at road courses to prevent the car unsettling from the lurch. I got enough problems without the car lurching :) It was weird. What can I say :) -Larry "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

My transmission died after just eight laps or so. Wasn't driving any differently than usual.
