West Racing website countdown sparks WSC speculation
A daily countdown with historic sports car images on west-racing.com set off speculation that World Sports Cars would be announced or demonstrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. David L. Cook later said a demo was unlikely, and Douglas Ellison likened the planned open sim to X-Plane. The thread ended in cat puns.

Yep it was 13 yesterday, 2 (2 weeks?) the day before.

I'm seriously getting giddy here. :)
I noticed the cars were changing since it was posted on the news

must be something to do with the way the link is presented... when I use
this one:
http://www.west-racing.com/underconstr.jpg
I get the picture the others are on about, I think. Says 12 on it anyway.
Would indicate to me the website is twelve days from being launched, which
says nothing about the game sadly.

Since it's 12 days until Goodwood, I would expect more. I am inclined to
think that the Wests will unveil a demo at the festival. If not, then they
are just gonna piss off those of us who have been patiently waiting since
all the hype - 2 or 3 years ago. I don't even remember...

The car is changing.
I hope that the historical aspect of what they've used so far is an
indication that this is going to ship as a historical sports cars
game. The thought makes me salivate.

Well if they are matching years with the days left..they won't make it
out of the 70's. So just for grins...How about the Porche 917? Most of
the originally licensed cars were mid 90's on...so I would rather doubt the
initial release of cars will be too old...but...we have this mahvelous group
of car modders....it won't take long I think...And the track formats are
'supposed' to be at least somewhat similar to the SCGT/F1 200x tracks so
there too the community may be able to knock some tracks out fairly quickly.

Probably so, but a good sign nonetheless. Perhaps the end of the "legal
silence" and some news about their status. I personally hope for no more
than to hear that the project's alive and that they've found a distribution
arrangement that will serve them well. It would be good to see them
well-rewarded for all the effort they've obviously put into a project so
near and dear in concept to us sim-heads. I'd much rather wait than see a
great piece of work come out too soon, only to be self-sabotaged by missing
bits in the plan ala GPL.
So here's to just good news...though some shiny trinkets along with it
wouldn't be terrible. ;-)

I don't get it. You guys have been disappointed countless times about the
release of this game-- more false alarms than anyone could imagine. Then
comes these cryptic messages. I'll say it's another false alarm and what
will come in eleven days or so are more bogus images.

A countdown to anything is better than 'Under Construction'. And why would
there be a website containing a countdown to a website? It has to be
something important, that they want to drum up interest for, which makes me
think 'demo'. They wouldn't count down to an announcement when they could
just make it anyway.
The only other thing it could be is a big practical joke to get all the WSC
awaiters really angry so the let down when they finally can the game is
lessened.
Well you dont need to go there. If you dont have any interest then go find
something else to post about.
What has been bogus about the pics that have gone before?

Bogus in that they meant sod all to anyone apart from the Wests themselves.ie..they were
an indication of absolutely nothing substantial.
And if those screenies were released again in a few days time, they will be ridiculed for
their overall crap-ness.
Does anyone got a list (or the actual pictures) of the cars / pictures used
for "day" 15, 14, and 13?
Wonder if there's a 'thin red line going thru all this'...

The above statement is pathetic!
The only thing 'bogus' in this discussion is your grip on reality!
Would you swear on your life WSC is vapourware?
Righto see your point. Anyway all Iam expecting is some kind of news about
what is happening, I know its been years and there have been many false
alarms, but it dosnt cost anything to hope. I choose to believe that
something is being worked on, and if it happens then great.

Hi all !
I didn't understand the 12-clue either...
So I mailed 1 Word to the West bro's : When ?
The answer was :
Hello F
When? If you can wait a few more days all will be revealed :O)
All the best.

Grip on reality? Waiting for a title to be released for three years and
then pinning your hopes on a cryptic web site is reality? A sane person
predicts the future by looking at the past, and if the past is any
indication, bets are on that nothing will materialize from this countdown
but more speculation as to whether WSC will ever become a reality.

Because, of course, we all know how much the West Bros. like to keep
us abreast of development on WSC ;)...
Seriously though, with all the mountains of stale hype, and the lack
of any real communication on the current state of WSC - if this is
anything less than a playable demo and/or a general release date the
West Bros are going to burn the last of the positive feelings towards
WSC. It will go from a "leave work early to buy and go straight home"
game to "I'll wait for the first 1 or 2 price drops" game, at least
for me. And I'm one of the one's who said I'd pay over $100 for a
true historic sportscar sim.
Kendt
PS - Anyone archived the countdown images anywhere? I've only seen 12
and 11 (WSC hype doesn't make me drop what I'm doing to check out
anymore).

I thrust the West brothers to not be so evil that they after years of
silence, just put up this countdown thing just to say "ha! in your
face suckers!"
I have stopped waiting for this game a long time ago, but still, any
news is good news, and since they count down, I just can't be for a
"sorry, no deal" message.

The West Brothers were giving a lot of information before Empire told
them to stop. They were constantly giving interviews and distributing
movies and screenshots.
The reason we haven't heard anything for 1-2 years isn't because of
the West Brothers.

I never said that it was "vapourware", and I hope it comes out to mass acclaim . What
some can't understand is the frenzied level of anticipation of a PC game that may actually
turn out to be another Le-Mans 24 Hours. Why do you get yourself into such a state over it
? "Oooohhhh. look, there is a countdown on the Wests web site." So ? It could be that they
are going on holiday in a couple of weeks. Or something :-)

This is the list sofar Ed
car #2 - Villeneuve's Ferrari 312 T5(two weeks to go, start countdown?)
car #14 - Porsche 908
car #13 - Ferrari 333sp
car #12 - Cobra Daytona Coupe
car #11 - ferrari 312pb
car #404 - Errorpage on non-existing directory
Jacky Ickx's Ferrari 312 PB
A ferrari every other day sofar, although I don't think that has any
meaning.
I'm expecting the Wests to be free to talk again and opening their
website.

I've got news for you, until a public demo or the actual game is released, it IS vapourware. I'm
