Uploading lap times to F1 2002 world rankings

Masahiro asked how to upload laps to the F1 2002 world rankings and found his laps rejected for track cutting. Posters noted the rankings used stricter validity rules than the game. David Powell and Jonathan Diehl complained that drivers using steering help were topping the rankings.

From the telemetry screen, you can select the world rankin system. How do you upload your laptimes to this ranking? Masa
Select statistics and another window appears. Choose the icon to upload lap times, enter your email and password, and you're done. Thanks. I've tried the statistics window before, but my fastest laptimes were all rejected because of me cutting off the track too much :( I think the 'cut-off margin' of the track is very (too) minimal. Masahiro, Actually the 'cut-off margin' for EA's hot lapping is not bad. Fact is, from how I understand it, as long as you have to tires on the track at a time, then it's a go. That's better than the centerline. But then you can't expect your laps to be valid if you're completely off the track. There's got to be some cut off, and it can't be something like if your car is four car lengths from the track you're disqualified. Two wheels always on the track is fair enough, IMHO. Alanb, you're absolutely right. It is just me not being fast enough (in a fair way) for the higher positions in the world ranking! I am racing in Monza, and there is plenty of room to cut off the track, without your laptimes being invalid, but when you check the same lap in the telemetry part, it is rejected for the world ranking. So, the so called 'cut-off margin' in the game itself is much wider than it is in the world ranking lists. I have no idea what they're basing the legality of laptimes on, but I know that you can't follow the groove at either Monaco or Australia and have a valid laptime, as I've recorded dozens of laps where I only drive over the curbing where the groove indicates that you're supposed to. Of course, they're all valid laps in the game. Jason On Mon, 1 Jul 2002 00:52:56 +0200, "Masahiro" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Exactly! That's the problem. Valid for game does not equal valid for World rankings list. They need to patch it so that they are the same. Very frustrating when you've been used to racing one line in the game, putting up good numbers, then you have to find new lines for uploading to the rankings list. Surely you can't mean that this should be a valid lap time in the rankings? The criteria is this-- very fair and objective, in my estimation-- you must have at least two wheels (it may only be one) on the track at all times. If you're not getting valid times, then you're attempting to cut, where all wheels are off the track, completely. Seems more than fair for me. Alanb

The groove at Monaco and Australia indicates that you should have your outside wheels on the curbing at several spots. Grr, I can't remember the actual turn names but here goes. The 3rd gear left following the first 2nd gear right (i.e. the 2nd right hand turn on the course) at Australia has a darkened groove that is completely on the pavement inside the curbing at the apex and outside the curbing at the exit. At Monaco, the second chicane (not the one after the downhill run coming out of the tunnel, but the one following the next turn, a 3rd degree left) has a darkened groove that indicatest that your outside tires should be on the curb and your right sides full off - something that is viewed as invalid in the telemetry program but is fine in the game, naturally, since that's where the cars are supposed to drive. It's not a big deal to me since I'm no world record threat, but if I were pulling quick times I'd be annoyed. As it is, I'm having good races with the AI at 85% which is pretty sad.. Jason
Yeah, that's what I meant...but the other way around. They should patch the game so that the in-game valid laps work the same as the World ranking validity (2 tires on the track). Basically, just make the black flags (for cutting the track) in the game more strict than they are right now. "Alan Bernardo" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:OW%T8.56274$Uu2.9358@sccrnsc03...

A valid lap at EA's Telemetry site is when at least two wheels (maybe even one) are on the track at the saem time. It appears to me, in how you explain these grooves, that at least two wheels are on the track. That is valid. You must be going completely off. I would agree with that. If at least both wheels are not on the track at all times, then the driver should be black-flagged. That is reasonable and consistent. Anyhow, you'd have the option, if you wanted, to disable this in the rules. this ranking is full of LAMERS who use steering help now, therefor this site is useless as steering help gives far more front end grip (2+secs per lap) enabling total LAMERS to get P1 times.....I wonder is these LAMERS can get 32 at suzuka using only Invulnerabililty??? or a 16 at cananda. I bet the steering aids lamers that have appears above me there woundnt have a hope in hell EA needs a RANK for LAMERS, and one for skilled sim racers who use no aids outside of Inv, TC and autoshifting, the two later ones are also a bit gay if you ask me but i suppose those should be allowed as there 2002 spec systems....as for yaw control, stablilty, ABS, Steering help, if you think your fast with these on, no your GAY...dont see Luke McLean, Don Duhum, Tridon, Risto Junnilainen <sp> et all the old GPL crew using GAY aids? Top GPLer players seem the fastest at this game too without GAY aids.....funny that :) Regards David Powell (no aids non lamer) Steve Lane <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

there prolly using the GAY AIDS....therefor can take inhuman ammounts of curb due to stability.opp lock, steering help ammounts of curb none aids drivers cannot as the car will fly into orbit on the curbing....maybe, i never have a problem with a legal lap and use no aids.....using shit loads of curb....maybe you guys are just used NFS or somthing.... Dave, I don't have a problem posting valid laps either (I have a time on the leaderboard for every track). What we were discussing is how the game's criteria is completely different than the telemetry/world ranking criteria. I was suggesting that EA patch the game so that it's criteria would match the telemetry (thus making it more difficult in a normal race to cut corners). I completely agree. I'm sick of fighting to stay on the Silverstone top 100 because of all of the cheezers using the High steering help aid. They should rework the valid lap computer to only accept times with 4 or less "points" from using aids. IE. count the number of aids (2pts for a HIGH aid) and that's your "aids" point number. That would clear off the board pretty quick. I think most of the sim. racers that are posting times are limiting themselves to using only autoshifting, clutch help, low traction control, and invunerability. When I do an actual race, I turn invunerability off (I have it on for doing hotlaps so that I don't have to re-pit and do another practice lap coming out of the pits if I hit something). I've been weaning myself off of autoshifting, but I think low TC and clutch help are almost required to get a simulation feel from the car....and almost everyone keeps invunerability on just as a convience feature (since it doesn't aid your lap times at all). Jon PS. What's your handle on the board? I go by my name, only done some serious laps at suzuka so far.....which was Top3 till the steering help turned up..Tridon and Luke are faster no aids, No suprising as Luke has the world No.1 GPL ranking and Tridon is an old GPL hand and experienced F1 2001 player...Im sure EA will sort a non lamer ranking...no need for points just a seperate system for serious sim players.... Why low traction control and not high traction control? I would suspect that in the real F1 world the traction control software is so sophisticated that it makes any production TC look like "low" and the F1 drivers get the best TC there is... Manuel A. they limit themselves as high TC is actually slower, at least thats what ive felt...to much slowing of the turns in F1 2002, I can get a harder acc with no TC...low TC is about the same as non really...its hard but its quicker without any... Right. what he said :-) High TC is just too much, and low TC is just the right amount. For me, it depends on the track whether or not I'm faster with it turned on.
