TSW pedals not recognised in NASCAR Heat

A user's TSW wheel worked in Papyrus games but NASCAR Heat would not read the pedals. Suggestions included calibration, split versus combined axis settings, the Heat 1.5 patch and a TEI fix for USB disconnects. The problem was solved by using combined axis through the USB adapter rather than the gameport.

Hi all..I can hook up my TSW via the gameport or through a USB adapter. Works great in papy games but I cannot get it to work in Nascar heat and a few other games. the wheel itself is often recognized by none of the games read the pedals. Very puzzling IMO. I would like to run the trucks in NHeat. Can't get those darn pedals to work? any thoughts? DC
Did you calibrate it correctly in the start/settings/control panel area of windows? Heat gets all it's joystick/wheel info directly from windows, so IF you have your wheel properly setup in the gaming controllers control panel, NH should have no problem seeing them. (just to be sure, when in Heat, in the controls page, are you cliking on the black oval that displays the current setting for each axis?) dave henrie "David Ciemny" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:N0NU8.3205$[email hidden]... > Hi all..I can hook up my TSW via the gameport or through a USB adapter. > Works great in papy games but I cannot get it to work in Nascar heat and a > few other games. the wheel itself is often recognized by none of the games > read the pedals. I remember using my clutch pedal with Heat, so I know it accepts split axis. I am using a TSW2 and have had no troubles outside of F1-2001 before I purchased the USB adapter. Since then, everything has worked fine, but I haven't tried the Heat game in ages. No TSW pedals but one guy had Redline pedals and could not get them to work with split axis either. I think this is the reason Papyrus always included the generic driver, to allow those wheels that don't use DX to work properly. Kudos to Papy. Does that Rockfire adapter help in this area? Ok lets back up a little. What operating system do you have? (win98? XP?) Can you choose between single axis and/or split axis on your pedals? I was assuming you had XP so when I referred to dual booting, that meant having BOTH win98 and XP installed on your system.(different partions of the harddrive) But I better be sure first. dave henrie
Weird... I ran Heat, GPL, SCGT, Viper racing, Colin McRae 2 with both my old TSW 2 and new TSW stock without any problems. I never got rid of that damn dead zone in Nascar Heat, but that's another ball game. What's your os? David Ciemny wrote:

sorry for being vague..98se. Sorry Dave I kind of figured that is what you meant. No just one OS. Another funny thing has happened since hooking up my TSW GT with the converter and usb adapter. While in N2002, (usually while in tight traffic) my controller goes dead. the car immediately loses power and all steering is lost. After everyone swears at me I go to gaming options (98se) and my controller id has moved on it's own to id 2. I switch to id 1 and sometime down the road it will happen again. this is very odd. Off topic but I am getting it off my chest. F1 2001 my controller did not work but in f1 2002 it did. I know sometimes it is the game's fault but I am getting kind of upset that I spent a ton of money on a high end wheel and it seems to only work real well in papy games. Maybe TEI has to make some changes down the road. I am just speculating. I could have spent a lot less to get a lower quality wheel but my old logi wff worked in every game I tried. Oh well..thanks for you thoughts. Dave C. Philster <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

I am Redline pedals and I agree with Dave about some games refusing work in split axis mode. EA Sports F12001 is one of them. Doesn't matter what driver I use. Custom, is the only one that tends to work at all well. However with all Papy games (Indy1 to N2002) I can have them set to dual or single with either the Generic or DirectX drivers and they work perfectly as expected. Viper Racing was another that work very well. GP2 did, GPL does, clutch and all. Screamer 2 work very well. Even Racer in it's infancy works very well in Split axis mode. These games can be run either through the game port or the Rockfire USB adapter, it doesn't matter. The Rockfire just make all axis very stable. So in defence of my RRC pedals that I make I beleive it is the controller coding that is at fault with the odd game. Windows "sees" the RRC in any mode I wish to set them in. They calibrate correctly and tests well in Windows yet go to F12001, select the Windows controller and , bam , nothing works right. Run them as a custom unit and all is well bar they have to be in single axis mode. EA's V8 Challenge is also a little dodgy to setup. As far as I'm concern some sims are way over complicated in their controller setups. Papy simple have it right. Do you know what axes your controller uses? I assume that in the windows game controllers dialog you can see the bars move around in response to your pedal/wheel movements? Are they moving the full range? Do you have the 1.5 patch for heat (I think after DirectX 8 came out, some controllers started showing up with the pedals showing up on the formerly unused "Slider" axes, but the 1.5 patch added support for multiple controllers and every axis or button possible.) I've never seen a problem before with Heat not working with a controller that works in windows, especially a gameport wheel. The only problem I recall was with a ECCI wheel which has one pedal on the "Y" axis--windows doesn't accept a Y axis that has only one direction, so you had to hold the pedal halfway down when setting the "center" position in calibration. The error was pretty obvious in the windows dialog--when the pedal was up it showed up as flickering between "center" and "up". Also, there's a little DirectInput "test app" that comes with Racer that will tell you what axes your controlller uses. -Dave P MGI "David Ciemny" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:N0NU8.3205$[email hidden]... > Hi all..I can hook up my TSW via the gameport or through a USB adapter. > Works great in papy games but I cannot get it to work in Nascar heat and a > few other games. the wheel itself is often recognized by none of the games > read the pedals. thanks Dave..got it to work the other day. Combined axis. Won't work through the gameport. only when I use the USB adapter. Strange..
