Do any of you use the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz? I've been using the same SB Live that I bought way back in Oct '98, and I'm trying to find an excuse to replace it. Do you get 4-speaker sound in games such as NR2002, F12002, etc?

I've been using the Santa Cruz for about a year, and couldn't be happier. Don't have F1-2002, but do have N2K2. Former card was the SB Audigy. Creative PCI 512 4.1 is 50 bucks new and does EAX and stuff. I was in the market for a TBSC when I saw the PCI512 which was in stock at the time. They had a return policy so I got it. I have not had a single problem with the card at all, whatsoever, and I really like the sound. I have installed about 5 games since getting it and it worked with all my old games (25 or so) without so much as a "find" prompt. I also have ten MIDI drivers and am using ASIO and once again, the card has never even blinked. Looking around later, the TBSC didn't have the features I now enjoy and it was about 30 bucks more at the time. I got the Cambridge FPS1800 speakers system and have to say it is the best 100bucks I've ever spent when talking about packaging and product quality. No tools, 5 minute setup, and sounds like a 100 dollar speaker system. It's smooth and flat(ish) and the crossover point is perfectly matched to the satellites. You really won't miss that information above 12Khz. Shit, most games don't even have sounds that go that high. -- "Racing! - Science for the action minded." mark "doubleu" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bukW8.24660$[email hidden]... > Do any of you use the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz? Yes, it's an upgrade bc of lower cpu utilization, greater compatibility and stability. I built a new machine last Oct. and opted for a TBSC since I anticipated potential SBLive problems with my AMD rig (I sold my old PIII rig with the SBLive in it). I was astonished by the improved sound when I built the system. I felt as if I'd bought new speakers since they never sounded so good using the SBLive. After my experience, I wouldn't go back to SB. -- Joe Marques "doubleu" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bukW8.24660$[email hidden]... > Do any of you use the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz? I upgraded from the SBlaser Live! to the TBSC 2 years ago, and have never looked back since. It's a great card for $79 (and that's the retail price). The Win2K/XP Drivers are SOLID, and the hardware just plain works without complaining about what slot it's in or any other nonsense. It sounds great, supports 5.1, and has all the inputs and outputs most could ever want. I watch Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 movies all the time and they sound great. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in replacing an SBLive card with a TBSC. Yes, it does 4 channel 3D surround in NR2002. -Larry "doubleu" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bukW8.24660$[email hidden]... > Do any of you use the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz? As always, hit their website (www.turtlebeach.com) and get the latest WHQL driver set. Don't even bother installing what comes on the CD :) You'll be quite happy with the card and the company. -Larry "doubleu" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:2UrW8.27408$[email hidden]...

I know some folks using it under 98, and they say it's been just fine... Everyone's system is different, especially under any old 9x version. -Larry "The Fourth Man" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

And just because YOU have a problem with it, doesn't mean everyone else will. The TBSC is a fine, worry-free card for most people, unlike the SBLive cards. -Larry "The Fourth Man" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Did I mention SB Live! cards? If they play the same games I have they WILL have the same problems. I'm not talking out my ass. These are researched and documented facts. Perhaps you can explain to me why the same games that crash on a SC play fine on a FortissimoII on Win98 with the exact same hardware except the soundcard. Why do you think TB have released beta WDM drivers for Win98SE? The drivers that crash certain games are VXD drivers. Fort2 drivers come in one download for all OS' and don't crash any games under any OS. The SC uses a slightly more advanced chip than the Fort2 but in practical use and sound quality it is not better to my ears. A soundcard guru in the soundcard tech group swears the Audigy is the best gamer's card going and he's tried most of the others too. But I'm happy with my Fort2 for now. SC is a great card under 2K/XP, I'm just saying do not buy it if you use Win98 and play a lot of different games. Disabling hardware acceleration is not a desirable option. And that's what proves it's the soundcard drivers and not my PC. By disabling HA I can make any game play nice with the SC under Win98. That's a driver problems and not hardware. Do you run Win98 Larry?
Guys.....guys.....guys.....I didn't mean to start a fued!! hehe The Santa Cruz has already been received and installed, and WinXP is the operating system, and everything is working great. I apologize for starting this mess! ;-) "The Fourth Man" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
