Hello Is there anything that justifies the price difference in terms of GAMEPLAY ? I don't care if the TSW "look" better or if you can put some idiotic MOMO pads on them, do they FEEL better and make you faster ? Thanks -- The first ever pinball ezboard !! http://pub7.ezboard.com/bpinball

I personally didn't like my TSW wheel (it broke on me a LOT) but I LOVED the pedals. They are MUCH better then any I have used, including the Act Labs that I use now. I'm not sure how much the TSW are, but if they are anything under 200, then I would say get those.
most definitely, I use the sport pads with mine "Txl" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3d39170e$0$225$[email hidden]... > Hello > > Is there anything that justifies the price difference in terms of GAMEPLAY?

Let's put it this way. I got the AL whole setup for X-mas this past year. As of June, I had replaced the springs in the gas pedal 3x and the clutch once. This is for the alleged "performance" pedals. They are junk and should be avoided. Check the AL website and go to the forum section. there are tons of posts about the crap pedals. The original pedals were so stiff and awkward, that they were unusable. As a result of all this, I sold all my AL stuff on Ebay and bought the TSW2 stock with split axis pedals. No clutch, no paddle shifters......NO PROBLEMS!! The TSW gear is top of the line. The pedals are super smooth and the whole pedal unit is a heavy wood frame with a well designed cover. I got the plain old rubber pedal pads also as they don't come with one. The pedals have a very accurate movement and allow for excellent control. If you want pedals, go with the TSW. In terms of gameplay, I'd say probably not. The Performance Pedals are smooth and easy to race with. There were issues with the brake pedal breaking, but that's resolved with a new pedal. There are issues with springs breaking for some people that I believe Act Labs is working on. In all cases, they are quick to send out replacement parts. If you want to spend about 3 times more for the TSW pedals, you might also want to look into some Redline pedals from Nigel. I haven't tried them myself, but have talked to 2 people who own both and like the Redline better. They also report faster lap times with the Redline wheel which, I believe, Nigel doesn't make anymore. The build quality in the expensive pedals is better, but all of them are good performers. The attraction to the Act Labs pedals is the price and customer service. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com
I broke a spring in my Act Labs Performance Pedals, e-mailed on June 8th and three weeks later again. It has been a month and a half and still no springs. Their 'vaunted' support is garbage, imo. I've gotten nothing but e-mails telling me ship dates for the springs and blaming the delay, if a month and a half can be considered as such, on Customs from Canada to the US. Finally asked em if they'd considered selling me a box of springs. Got a response right away with a phone number and price. The stock pedals are horrible. Steering wheel is great. Perf ormance pedals work fine when they work. Most people got them right away. Certainly, if you didn't, you would be upset. Still, since others have gotten them so fast, I'd tend to believe the reasons they give for the delay. In any company, sometimes things for customer service are just out of their control. I imagine the sales, marketing and service departments are quite upset at the engineer or purchasing agent in their Chinese manufacturing plant who chose those springs. I think the design of the pedals is very well done; someone just picked the wrong part. I'd bet the new units that ship from China will have different springs. It's usually the throttle spring that breaks. I know they were tested for a certain number of cycles. The thing is, it could have been 1/2 million. That seems like a lot, but a hard core sim racer, using the pedals 5 days a week, would run the springs through more cycles than that in 6 months. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "Gavel" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I broke a spring in my Act Labs Performance Pedals, e-mailed on June 8th > and three weeks later again. Tip for AL users: Ask them for replacement parts BEFORE they break or you will be SOL for a while as you wait for them to arrive. (see why below) Temp fix for broken throttle spring: Use 1 spring from the clutch pedal. It gives a bit stiffer feel than 2 gas springs, but not so hard that it interferes with driving. Possible fix for the broken brake pedal problem: Take the ball out and work it repeatedly with your fingers. Do it a bunch of times and it will weaken the ball, to the point where I no longer hear any brake pedal cracking noises. I heard the new brake pedals they use are stronger though. Problems with AL replacement parts: 1. Unfortunately, since they are based in Canada, the springs could take 3 weeks (and have taken that long for me) in shipping time alone (in my case to GA). I read you can have them shipped faster if you pay extra though. 2. They sometimes take a long time to actually ship the springs in the first place. When my throttle springs broke (didn't actually break, just wore out so that they wouldn't return to the full "off" position, but just sagged down halfway), I asked for a replacement. Asked for 2 sets b/c I race in a league (offered to pay extra for the extra set). They said no problem, didn't make me pay extra, and shipped them within a week I think (but took 3 weeks after that to get here from Canada). When I got them, they weren't throttle springs, but brakes springs (same thickness as brake springs anyway). Not only did they also not return the throttle pedal to the "off" position after installation, it felt terrible. Had to brace your leg down to keep on the throttle at the SS. Asked them to send me 2 sets of regular gas springs as they said they would the first time. They said they were waiting for a shipment of new gas springs made with a "stronger alloy" (this has yet to be determined, but read further to find out why I don't believe it), and they should be arriving in about a week, then they would ship them. After a month and no springs, I emailed them asking for a new Pot for the wheel which had worn out by then, and also asked about the springs. About a month after that, I recieved the Pot first and then 3 sets of gas springs (which feel just like the original BTW). If they were made of a new stronger alloy, why would they send 3 sets to satisfy me rather than the 2 I asked for, or even 1 set (if they are stronger I shouldn't need 3 sets)? In any case, these 3 sets should last me until the 1 year warranty is up, after that I'm going with TSW (Lifetime Warranty). I might even have stuck with AL if I could just buy the replacement parts ahead of time, but I can't afford to have something break on me the night before a league race and be SOL. Overall I'm 50/50 with AL, they're replacement service isn't very timely in my experience (especially for parts that shouldn't have broken in the first place excluding the worn out POT), but they did deliver in the end. If I hadn't used the 1 clutch spring trick, I wouldn't have been able to race at all until the new springs arrived (the stock AL pedals are more or less unusable to me).
If you want the best buy TSW, anything else just tries to compare. All metal construction with a lifetime warranty or plastic parts that last maybe a month or two. I bought the DB15 3 pedal from TSW for right around 200 with shipping, the best money I have ever spent on my sim equipment. It is now 2 years later and I have yet to change a spring or pot or anything on my TSW pedals, they have worked flawlessly. Called up TSW on Christmas eve day and talked to Dave himself for about a half an hour when ordering my pedals, try that with any other company. It took two weeks to get my pedals from TSW, it took eight months after pre paying for my ACT LABS shifter that it finally showed up in the mail. Be sure and order an extra set of springs and a clutch and brake pedal when you order from ACT LABS, you will need them in the first month. I hate to badmouth ACT LABS their USB shifter has been great, I just feel they missed the mark on their pedals. > > > > I personally didn't like my TSW wheel (it broke on me a LOT) but I LOVED the > pedals. "All metal construction" Are the TSW pedals all metal? From the picks it looks to be on a wooden (MDF) base. "Mark" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
