RASCAR Coca-Cola highlight replay and archive formats

Ed Solheim posted a NASCAR Racing 2002 highlight replay compressed with WinAce. Larry objected to the non-ZIP format, and others recommended WinRAR or PowerArchiver, with general praise for the replay.

Ed, a question... What's with the weird compression? Can't Zip be used ? I don't have a decompressor installed for that, and I don't care to have anything but Winzip installed... Thanks :) -Larry "Ed Solheim" <edwins[ REMOVE ]@[ THIS ].no> wrote in message news:oFC_8.1234$[email hidden]...

I was able to open it in Winrar but was unable to extract it. Got some sort of error. Brian Oster On Sun, 21 Jul 2002 23:56:42 GMT, "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote:

I installed a forein decompressor the first time it came out like this, but I will never do it again. It screwed up all of my associations. I don't understand the need for it either. We are all running Windows computers. .ZIP is the standard everyone has. -Larry "Brian Oster" <bgoster@swbell**nosmap**.com> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

It's called WinAce - and I used it for a purpose: Replay uncompressed Rpy-file - original size 25941 kb Relpay compressed using Winzip (max compression): 15 226 kb Replay compressed using WinAce: 12 508 kb That is over 2.5 mb or saved in size and time. WinAce is can be downloaded for free :http://www.winace.com/ It also unpack *.zip, *.ace and *.rar files. If you want to see the replay - get WinAce. -- ed_ "Brian Oster" <bgoster@swbell**nosmap**.com> skrev i melding news:[email hidden]... > I was able to open it in Winrar but was unable to extract it. I have the latest ver. of WinRar and it work on .ace files (and most other type) too. Elrikk
I had no problem opening it in an old beta of winrar either, FWIW. Jason On Mon, 22 Jul 2002 00:53:38 GMT, "Ed Solheim" <edwins[ REMOVE ]@[ THIS ].no> wrote:

Winrar is the best archiver ever made (well, besides bzip but I'm talking Windows here). I have several versions going back to the mid-90's to a fairly recent beta and they are all superior to winzip and winace in nearly every way. =) Jason On Tue, 23 Jul 2002 01:51:08 GMT, Brian Oster <bgoster@swbell**nosmap**.com> wrote:

Winace is shareware though? I use power archiver. It's free, and it does Zip, Ace, Rar, Lha... But I agree, more people should use ACE compression, especially with big downloads, just some reactionary old farts have only just got the hang of PKZip... ;o) cheers John
