Finally after a year I finally got Speedvision ummm, Speed Channel back.
Moved to a new place and was out of luck for a while. I thought NASCAR took
over this channel? Based on what I've seen so far it is pretty much the
same. I've seen F-1, Rally, CART, Superbikes and all the other great stuff
I used to see.
Was everyone just jumping to conclusions before?

IMO Speed is a much better channel than Speedvision. There is alot more
NASCAR coverage, but it didn't seem to push out the other stuff, which is
what the original fear was. I'm not really sure what we are "missing" since
the change, but I'm sure there is something gone because they sure didn't
cut back on the infomercials. I think it might be the movies that got cut.

Doesn't ALL racing go around and around and around and then around again??

Thanks you all gave me a good laugh. To be honest with you all the only
racing that I enjoy watching is motorcycle racing and preferably Moto GP
featuring Valentino Rossi, and also want to mention that it is hard for me
to watch any kind of sports on TV unless I'm to a certain degree emotionally
attached I.E. worldcup, which really sucked watching Denmark getting beat so
bad. Personally I prefer being at the game rather than watching the
boobtube, it's just a totally different atmosphere and felling being there
than watching a 46"(in my case) little screen

So how do the dragsters get back to the start line for the next race?!

some old movie any day. Just what have you lost from the switch to SPEED? I
still see bikes, rally, F1, drag boats. We have also gained CART and WoO as
well as NASCAR.
I guess its just a culture thing because watching a "parade" around a road
course is not what I'd call racing and other do. Maybe its a US vs. the rest
of the world type thing.

I don't think they've dropped any significant race coverage this year.
There was plenty of "empty space" in the old Speedvision schedule.
All the new additional NASCAR stuff hasn't crowded out any significant
race coverage YET.
As far as non-race coverage goes, they've kept the neat "Legends of
Motorsport" for now. I am recording all episodes that I am interested
in. They aren't making any new ones though, so I expect it to
disappear in the next year or so.
They did kill off the "Lost Drive-in" show with Bruce Dern on Sat.
nights. Which upsets me some, because I love those funky old car
chase movies from the 60s & 70s. But it was probably bound to die
eventually (just like MonsterVision on TBS).
The long-term expectation is that NASCAR-related coverage will
continue to grow on Speed...along with it's "sister" channels Fox and
FX. Like kudzu, it may eventually squeeze everything else out to the
margins. If that really happens, we can hope that ESPN will pick up
the "droppings" from Speed and start all over again.

Evidently so, the changes made weren't as bad as everyone expected. While
we're on the subject could someone at Speed please go out and find some new
sponsors? I now own a Tote-Em-Pole, Bowflex workout machine, and a DR Brush
Mower. I've got a lot of money piling up here, but there doesn't seem to be
any other product to spend it on. I've been trying to find one of those nifty
550 Spyders like the old coma guy has, but they're quite rare.

LOL,, F'in BowFlex mercials, Geeeeezzz, Ya git da DR WeedWacker yet?

Daytona Beach - Winter Speed Carnival 1903 - 1935
1919 - Ralph DePalma Driving Champion and winner of hundreds of races, sets
new 1 mile record driving 905 cubic inch V-12 Packard on beach at 149.875
mph. DePalma also sets World Records for distances of 2 to 20 miles and
standing mile. His standing mile record of 92.713 mph is unbroken for 36
years.
De Plane's are gone, (at least I haven't seen any yet) ah shit I just
checked the schedule, OshKosh Fly-In is on Saturday, Bah!
Lost DriveIn is gone.
Still to much Boats, SpeedTV should swap the boats to ESPN for AMA Motocross
IMO.

F1 isn't about racing. It's about money, technology, and watching
1 or 2 teams dominate the rest of the field.
If you want to see exciting racing, based on driver skill,
then watch the F3 or F3000 series. IMO this should get far more
coverage than the processions they call F1 races.

I'm afraid that apart from the latter (which happens now and then no
matter how much tech is involved) you're more or less right.
F1 is rapidly on the way of any sport that gets too professional: only
the richest of the rich will be able to afford it in the end.
If even the fans think it's boring these days (and I am a fan, but not
about cars which have autocorrection, auto-steering, auto-braking and
anti-wheelspin) chances are something's basically and seriously wrong.
If it were up to me, we'd go back to a "GPL" kind of formula: no wings,
lower cornering speeds, no electronic "driving aids", simple and cheap
cars so that more teams will be able to come in, and all driving done
"by hand".
But keep the monocoques and all other safety improvements which have
saved many a life in the last few decades.
And while we're at it, back to the original F1 qualifying system: no
qualifying, just a lottery for places. Give the backmarkers a good
chance now and then, and the public some more racing action.

LOL, yup. And they never have come up with any new commercials for
Speed itself. The original Speedvision self-promo commercials got
old, but at least they were funny the first 500 times I saw them.
