Hi, ijust bought the Asus geforce 4 V8460 Ultra board and i am wondering if there is any differance between the nvidia and the Asus drivers. Carlo -- [email hidden]
I got an Asus board ab it older mind you 7100pro geforce 2 mx/400 and i was always adviced not to install anything of what came withthe card related to drivers go directly to the diffenrent sites and get the corresponding drivers. I.E. go to Nvidia site for your videocard, if you have a via chipset go to viaarena for your 4in1 drivers and so on, just what i was told and my system seems to work fine "Chipknip" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ai78uc$3ah$[email hidden]... > Hi, ijust bought the Asus geforce 4 V8460 Ultra board and i am wonderingif

Asus is one of those companies that does indeed provide value-add to their drivers. They are NOT standard nVidia Detonators. In fact, most of the ASUS video functions will NOT work with generic drivers, you must use the ASUS drivers. Stick with the latest release ASUS drivers with that card. Standard Dets will work, but you'll lose a lot of features in the process. -Larry "Chipknip" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ai78uc$3ah$[email hidden]... > Hi, ijust bought the Asus geforce 4 V8460 Ultra board and i am wonderingif

The ASUS video functions and other special features will not work with the generic nVidia drivers. Only the ASUS drivers have the system files and support for these features. Unless it's changed since my last ASUS card of course. -Larry "Hans Jensen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aKG19.75625$[email hidden]... > I got an Asus board ab it older mind you 7100pro geforce 2 mx/400 and iwas > always adviced not to install anything of what came withthe card relatedto > drivers go directly to the diffenrent sites and get the corresponding > drivers. Which are ?, I personally haven't used the asus driver's on mine, always went straight to the NVIDIA site, and got the latest driver's, but like I said, that is just what I was told, by the guy's where I bought the parts to assemble my computer, on the other hand, I went with the asus card cause I run an asus motherboard, and according to my brother, who builds pc's and sells them, the asus board and vid card works really well together, but I honestly haven't played around with it, to see for my self, just went by the advice of the tech guy's from the store. Good Grief... Ok, UNLESS it has changed, ASUS tunes their drivers to their cards, unlike many other manufacturers. This has actually gotten them into trouble a few times, like when they had the "See-Thru" option in their nVidia drivers a year or so ago. It improved performance, but it allowed people an unfair advantage in First-Person shooters because they could see other players behind walls. Just one example. The last ASUS deluxe card I had (don't remember the model, it's been a while), had VIVO functions that WOULD NOT FUNCTION with reference drivers installed. Ditto for the 3D Glasses and such. The ASUS drivers had additional support for the special features of the card that were not present in the reference drivers because they were ASUS specific. Again, the basics of the card will work. The extra ASUS features may not. -Larry "Hans Jensen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:u%L19.73209$[email hidden]... > Which are ?, > I personally haven't used the asus driver's on mine, always went straightto > the NVIDIA site, and got the latest driver's, but like I said, that isjust
