Hello,
I currently have NASCAR Racing 4 and use it for the occasional blat
while my real love stays with GPL.
I find after GPL it is nice to sling a giant NASCAR around for a few hours
sometimes!
My question is, should I upgrade to N2002? I am not really bothered about
driver names and wonder if there is any other significant feature in the sim
that justifies an upgrade. I gather the physics modelling is better, but
how much better?
Cheers,
Jon.
It's a lot better but if you don't race much it mat not be worth it.

That all depends. If your into things like banging your head into a wall or
self mutilation then probably not. If you like racing a car that actually
feels like its on a track not an ice rink then yes. =)

Yes N2K2 is a lot better. I never believed it would be much different but I
found that N4 was very undrivable and N2K2 you can actually drive the car
again. There are some new niceness. Like a prefered Driving line that can be
displayed on the track. Not always accurate but a nice idea. Also there is a
place you can go and be told how to drive the track by DW. Again not always
accurate but a nice feature.
Again short answer is Yes N2k2 is better and you might want to get it before
N2K3 comes out.

The cars seems easier to control, but I do not
think the sim is better, just different.
My only reason for buying N2002 was that I thought noone was doing N4
anymore. Do I have more fun with N2002 than with N4? No. Left turns still
turns to the left. Online crashes still happen when pacing. Wreckers still
are ruining Bristol races. Too many drivers still choose to ram the poor guy
in front rather than to lift off or braking on SS tracks.
If there still are an active N4 crowd, I'd say that buying N4 is a waste of
money, unless you would like to get the driving lessons provided with N2002.
GPL still gives me the white knuckles. N4 and N2002 don't.

bitter little twit, N2002 is a far cry better than N4, and if you want to race on-line, N2002 is the
much better choice.

N2002 is better if you don't want the challenge of setting up a car.
We've talked about this before but N2002 overdoes the drafting model,
thereby largely removing the need to have a skill in setting up cars. Other
than that, its pretty much the same sim.
I always see it sadly ironic how GPL is so popular for the hard core sim
enthusiast because of its realism and difficulty but when a NASCAR sim got
too difficult (N4) everyone whined about it. They told Bill B. in Daytona
their goal for N2002 was to make it more like fixed setup racing so they
pretty much reinforced that philosophy imo.
Bottom line, if you don't want to work at improving in a sim, buy N2002,
otherwise stick to N4.

That might be true if you only race in situations where there's yellows
every 5 laps (and therefore frequent opportunities to pit). But once you get
to a point where long stints of green flag racing are the norm, it becomes a
whole different ballgame.
