RASCAR Yahoo mailing list proposal
Eldred created a Yahoo group to move RASCAR discussion off the newsgroup. Most participants objected, preferring to keep it on r.a.s. where the series began and complaining about Yahoo, and suggested kill filters for those not interested.

I don't get it? RASCAR is about r.a.s., why keep us discussing things out
of here? Nobody is loosing anything by talking about things here, posts
won't be served for another purpose. We ain't taking any space, the space
is infinite here on the Usenet.
I perhaps just don't get the point here do I ? :)

I agree with French Toast. We already have two web sites outside of r.a.s.
for RASCAR.

Spare my inbox, rather... are you quite insane? Have you seen what asking a

I say keep it here. All RASCAR threads have "RASCAR:" in them so if
people don't like it they can search their newsreader's help on how to
setup a kill filter. Besides, r.a.s. is the whole point behind
RASCAR, not to mention if discussion had been moved to Yahoo several
months ago, you would still be racing with about 5 or 6 people every
week instead of the 20 - 30 people that now show up including myself.

I see their point, but I don't like the thought of migrating to a _mailing_
list. I don't wanna wake up to find fifty people disagreeing with Tom Pabst
in my inbox. Can't we just migrate to the forum at Racesimcentral?
Brian also makes a valid point in that RAS is our recruiting base so taking
all discussion / announcement out of RAS is a bad thing.

I don't mind the race recaps, but the pissing and moaning about how someone
painted their car or the who wrecked who stuff gets old fast.
MadDAWG
With Yahoo, when you join a yahoo club or group select no emails. Then you
just need to go to the group to read messages.

Me too. Keep it here, I say! What would RASCAR be without a
good public post race flogging from Mr. Simmons, huh? ;-)
Seriously, let's keep it here. RAS is RASCAR's birthplace, and

I prefer a mailing list *because* messages get sent to my inbox. I can
download that mail along with the rest, and don't need another program to read
e-mail. 2 of my other leagues have gone to forum-based mail - I don't read

I didn't mean we'd have to keep everything here to keep attention, but
announcing / advertising the races would have to be done regularly, IMO.

I just don't understand what the he** is happening with us lately. There's
been almost 30 of these races. Why are wes still acting like this is all a
mystery as to how it needs to be operated?
It's running fine. Add a couple of new rules (forced chat/no racing back to
line, which will eliminate a lot of incidents according to Ed's research).
Keep the RASCAR discussion inside just a few threads per week. If we really
need another forum, racesimcentral.com is already set up for us.
To those complaining about too many RASCAR threads, give me a damn break. I
used to see thread after thread about GPL races. Even races hosted by
Eldred. They didn't bother me even though I wasn't participating. If I
really didn't like them, all I had to do was take ten seconds and use the
filter option. You can do the same with RASCAR. Would of taken less time to
do that than it did to write your complaining posts. Some weeks there's only
a thread or two about RASCAR anyway, this week was just a one off.

so...
RASCAR races will continue to run as Eldred sees fit and John will continue

combattants and keep people from flaming those who express an honest opinion
so we don't get kicked off the group. As well as staying on your case, of

I got a message immediately after sending my post saying my original post
was no longer on the server, so I resent it. Didn't know if it got to r.a.s.
or not.
No questions. Let's just do put the new rules in and stop talking about
what's going to happen at some mysterious point in the future. I feel like
I'm back in high school and everyone gets all worked up about the smallest
things and can't make the simplest decisions. This has been going on for
months now.
As much as I appreciate Eldred supplying the server, I'm not so sure though
that the races should necessarily be run as Eldred "sees fit". I don't even
think he is wanting to do things that way either. If I was supplying the
server, I wouldn't be making decisions on my own. I paid for a server to
start this thing off, and I was willing to run the first race as the group
wanted even then. The races should be run as the group wants, but it
shouldn't take forever to get a vote on certain issues. We should put an
issue forward, take a vote, and then move on.
David G Fisher
Well, the 'league' is based ON RAS. I think that makes us a bit different
than other 'leagues'.
I don't need another online account. I can't keep track of what I have :)

i dont care because the amount of spam to my mailbox has reduced by about
80-90%, although i miss the UKGPL community mails i do not miss the ton of
spam that comes with it.
I would rather we use the RaceSimCentral forum if we have to take Rascar
away from RAS, i'm sure Phil Lee could setup a members only forum, in
addition to the open forum where new members register.
My 2p......Cheers Ginger

Actually, I just don't like Yahoo. Once you're on there, you can't
*really* delete your account. I've tried at least half a dozen times in
the last six months, and it just doesn't seem to take. Further, they
changed my privacy settings without asking me first, and now I'm getting
spammed to hell and back.
Yahoo and other sites of that ilk are bogus and downright evil. I don't
do "free" websites (geoshitties, tripod, etc), I don't do instant
messaging (ICQ, AIM, MSNM), and I don't do yahoo.

Maybe I need to fire up my news server again, I agree that Yahoo sucks
and I'm no big fan of web based message boards either, but if the RASCAR
message count goes through the roof, I can see that those not really
interested might find it a tad annoying
Now where did I put that NT4 Server CD .......

I was wondering whether they might want to achieve that you sort of 'verify'
your email address to them from time to time (by going to Yahoo to re-enable
it and allowing them to send a 'verification mail'), so they can sell it for
more money.

lol... I once went over a form 3 times to see why it was rejected on a
"required field missing"-error. Turned out I'd put in 1790 as year of birth.
