Best current CART or F1 sim compared to GPL

A GPL owner asked for the best CART or F1 sim. Most said nothing beats GPL, with F1 2002 the best modern F1 option despite poor online play and no good CART sim since ICR2. David G Fisher and Jonathan Yedidia argued F1 2002 surpasses GPL in physics and feedback.

I'm sure this post has been answered numerous times but I never saw the consensus. What is the best CART and/or F1 game on the market? I have GPL. I realize that GPL is a good sim but I was looking for something better. Thanks for any input.

Hey Carl, This is a legitimate post, what the hell is your problem. Thanks for being a jerk. For everyone else: I'm still looking for some feedback, thanks, just ignore this jerk. -------------------- Carl Ribbegaardh <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ajehf6$1aphuu$[email hidden]...

Its a bit of a silly question really as no-one will agree. IMO there is nothing better than GPL at the minute. F12002 is the best alternative in my opinion - although it is rubbish with internet play. There is no current decent Cart game available. All the best, Ash http://www.siroccoracing.com

For open wheel racing athenticity, GPL is stil the best IMO, so as for something better, there isn't anything yet. The last good CART sim IMO was ICR2, F12001 or 2002 are decent titles, but online play is terrible, so your choices are very slim. -- Biz "Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and,......things with molecular structures,....and the....." - Ash BMS <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I'm sure this post has been answered numerous times but I never saw the > consensus. > > > What is the best CART and/or F1 game on the market? F12002 and N2002 are better than GPL in every way except that GPL has better multiplay than F12002. David G Fisher "BMS" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

There has yet to be a simulation released that is better then GPL. Unless you consider N4 and NR2002 to be so (and it's somehow, true). NR2002 is IMO the best sim currently available, as long as you like the series. ( I don't particularly like NASCAR racing, but I race in the RASCAR series and have great fun) CART is a no go area at the moment as far as sims are concerned. For open wheel racing you'll need to look towards F1, of which F1 2002 is currently my pick of the crop, but unless you have at least ISDN and a host with a very fast connection, forget online play. A few people here like GP4 but the majority of posts I've seen would indicate that most prefer F1 2002. GPL is still amongst the top few sims but a few areas have been surpassed recently, unfortunately online play has only been beaten by N4 and NR2002. Other sims worth looking at, though not open wheel are Rally Trophy and Mercedes Benz Truck racing. Both reasonable sims and fun to play, however I found myself returning to GPL, NR 2002 and F1 2002 after a short time. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spam> PS. There was a CART mod available for NASCAR Heat (IIRC) but was cancelled for licensing issues. Maybe someone you know still has a copy ? Best modern F1 game is EA's F12002, imo. Don Burnette "BMS" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

IMHO, compared to GPL, F12002 has better sensation of speed, better graphics, better physics, better force feedback, tire wear, pit stops, pit-to-car radio, easier configurability, better AI (they'll actually pass you), and it has little things that I happen to prefer like a nose cam and automatic upshifts (but not downshifts), and other nice touches like music and 3-d views in the menus, or the fact that going off track affects your tires for a lap. GPL is apparently better for multiplay, but I only play off-line. GPL has better-looking replays, and perhaps a more interesting car to drive. GPL also has a much nicer online community, but there are some nice add-ons for F1-2002 as well. I used to play GPL almost exclusively, but I've switched to F1 2002, and anytime I try GPL now, it seems grossly inferior. By the way, F1 2002 is also *much* better than F1 2001, which I thought was inferior to GPL. I can't get GP4 to work even passably on my system (P4 1.5GHz, 768M RAM, but only GF2Mx400), but F1 2002 works very well.

I have GPL, but in the last week or so I've found myself addicted to playing Gene-Rally. (others can note how I carefully put the hyphen in)

I agree with just about everything you say. F12002 is far superior to GPL. The GPL tire model was way off from day one and made the car's grip almost arcade like in it's innacuracy, yet two years of constant denial of this fact by a certain crowd passed before they finally admitted that huge flaw existed. N2002 has better replay and multiplay than F12002, but that's about it. F12002 must be a lot more work to develope as well, since they have to model 11 different cars, more complex tracks, and weather. They have come far with it in a short time. David G Fisher

ROTFLOL!
Well, I think it's that old adage of people thinking that if a game is 'hard' then that makes it good. The main reason GPL is so hard is because it has relatively poor level of visual and tactile feedback to the driver. By contrast, F12002 is able to relay much more information to the driver through it's significantly higher resolution physics (mainly suspension and tyres), higher frame rate and vastly more progressive and predictable force feedback. Having said that, I'm not about to delete GPL off my hard disk. It is still my #1 source of multiplayer thrills. -- Damien Smith [email hidden] ICQ: 77028579

I still feel more feedback (visually) from GPL than I do in any other title including F1-2002. I just can't get halfway through the Nurburgring without sliding off in a turn. I wish wish wish Papy would take all the bells and whistles fron NR2002 and do another open wheel sim - one with more downforce!!! How many names are on that GPL2 petition? Has anyone e-mailed David Kaemmer or Randy Cassidy a link to that page? - David Cook

I seriously doubt it. I don't think any sim is really going to improve much at all on that physics model. I'm sure that if WRL has a more detailed physics model, some people will INSIST that they can feel the difference, but I bet it will be more of a placebo effect (I'll predict that debate right now). The major advances in what we feel and experience in auto sims in coming years will have to come from hardware (VR headsets and ass shaking seats). David G Fisher
