New Detonators Don't work for me

Problems with nVidia Detonator 40.41 drivers

Users reported mixed results with the new Detonator 40.41 drivers: slowdowns and boot failures in NR2002, flashing in GPL and N2002, broken control panel under Windows 2000, and poor LFS frame rates. Tom Pabst advised re-setting chipset-specific options and doing a clean uninstall, which fixed one user's control panel error. Several reverted to the 30.xx drivers.

I tried the new drivers and they slowed NR2002 to a crawl, even switching between screens was horribly slow, back to the 30.82's. Weird. P4 2.53 Ti4600 120gig HD 1gig PC800RDRAM SB Audigy EX Plantinum.
On the second attempt to install them, computer would not even boot up, had to boot up in safe mode and roll back again to the 30.82's to get it to work. "Morris Jones" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

No issues here. Picked up a few frames, but I swear I think the overal quality is down a notch. That may have been intentional, you know :) -Larry "Morris Jones" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Morris... With a P4 platform....you have an Intel Northbridge chipset....(or the equivalent of). Many settings for Intel chipsets are not "optimized" by default on the Nv properties tabs. Your installation of the new drivers would have reset all those to their defaults! Perhaps you don't remember setting them properly at one time? I don't know.....but the new Nv drivers wouldn't cause your system to just slow to a crawl......drivers don't do that. Incorrect settings or incompatible settings will. The "new" detonators are version 40.41 - direct from the nvidia web site, not ripped from anywhere else. They are working great for me on Windows XP Pro. Whenever anyone talks about the "new drivers" and doesn't give a version number, the post is worthless. nvidia drivers are updated frequently. Hi, After installing 40.41 drivers under Windows 2000, I can't access Nvidia properties in display settings. error is An error occuured while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\WINNT\System32\desk.cpl To confirm this is a driver problem, I installed the driver on 2 different builds of Windows 2000 - Advanced Server and workstation. I had the same problem with both. The Workstation build was totally clean - with no geforce tweak, riva or other utilities installed. Looks like these drivers might only be good for XP for the moment, though they are listed as being XP/2000 compatibile TIm "Morris Jones" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Tim... I've seen that error....heard of it.......before. The problem is, I can't remember the "fix" for it. But, I'm pretty sure it had to do with one of the component files in the new drivers not "overwriting" one of the older components....or not overwriting it properly. The fix had something to do with using NvCleaner.....then reinstalling the new drivers. I always "clean" my existing drivers out.....so haven't had this problem (in a long time). Check out Guru3D boards and I bet you this is the answer. TP "Tim Epstein" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:hIKb9.3153$[email hidden]...
