Has anyone bought a new computor with the new dual core prosser either AMD
or Intel? If so did you have to down load a patch for it?If you did how did
it work?
Thanks Don

AMD AthlonT 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows
Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2 - Allows the system to
automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match
the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation
program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for
installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical
user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly
localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This
driver supports AMD AthlonT 64 X2 Dual Core processors on Windows XP SP2,
Windows 2003 SP1 x84 and x64 Editions.

PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that
bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time
Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit
from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of
power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time
Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to
correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing
effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple
processor systems.

No problem with the Intel 950. Ran right out of the box.
I just saw a price drop on the AMD 4400+ x2 ($249.00!) Have the bugs been
worked out with these and race sims? This processor will o/c to fx speeds
btw..oh and 2mb cache!

If your interested in the 4400, which does have the higher cache, might want
to grab one while you can, as AMD is discontinuing them in favor of the
lesser expense lower cache chips, to compete with Intel.
I am using the X2 4400+ with good success.
Now, the only racing sim I have used it with so far, is NR2003 - I had some
issues, but it was associated with my Audigy2 ZS soundcard evidently, I
would get a screeching F1 sound if I paused the sim, and then my system
would lock up shortly after.
I installed a new X-FI Extreme Music a couple hours ago, and so far, so
good, have not had any lockups or wierd sounds.

So Don,
Am I looking for "toledo"? or what? what one do I want to make sure I get

I knew what core mine was when I ordered it
back in January, believe it might have been Toledo, but am not positive. I
just checked my Newegg receipt, and it does not say. I do know it is the 90
nm chip.
I am not even sure if they made the 4400+ in other cores.
I do believe, all the X2 4400+ chips, have the higher 1mb cache.

I think they have one with a 2 mb cache, 1mb for each core iirc.
That is what the 4400+ is.

Toledo's have dual 1MB Cache.
That's what my 4800X2 has.
