I'm looking for a real paint program that is windows based which meets the
following criteria:

  - TWAIN compliant scanning
  - Supports weird NASCAR Racing Palette
  - Works in Windows95
  - Is fairly simple to use
  - Is currently available from local software stores.

I've got Photoshop 3.04 but only because it came with my scanner.  It's like
Corel Draw in that it's really much more powerful than it needs to be for this
task.  Has anybody got any suggestions?

The best paint program I have found (so far) for NASCAR Racing, is
NEOPAINT ver. 3.2. The shareware version can be found at:

http://oak.oakland.edu/simtel.net/

Click on MS-DOS Programs

Search for: neopaint

There is an older version here too; make sure you download ver. 3.2

I don't know if it meets ALL of your requests, but it has much more
features than PAINTKIT has. I'm using it now to edit my SCICON(B).PCX
files to make custom decals, for example.

Although it's a DOS program, I run it from Windows 3.1

It' easier to use than Corel PhotoPaint 3.0

Since it's shareware, you won't be wasting time or money if you don't
like it.

E-mail me, if you have any specific questions that I can maybe answer for
you.

The best program I've been using for painting Nascar's has been Paint Shop
Pro, by JASC. You can import the NASCAR Pallete (Found at Chris Fredrick's
Racing Headquarters, or you can E-Mail me) and do a bunch of other things.
It's a steep learning curve at first, but it is a breeze once you figure
out everything. You can download Paint Shop Pro at http://www.jasc.com
It says it has a 30-day trial period, and it has a counter, but the
counter doesn't stop at 30. More like, 30,000.

Thanks - that's the 2nd reply in favor of PaintShop Pro (which I have), and
the added info about the palette helped tremendously.  Thanks mucho.

NeoPaint does not allow you to scan images in (as far as I remember).
Plus, it's a DOS app and I don't want to use it if a Windows app is
available that does what I want.
